Senior Associate, ONeill Institute - Georgetown University Law Center

Senior Associate, O'Neill Institute - Georgetown University Law Center

The Healthy Families Initiative - one of nine initiatives of Georgetown's O'Neill Institute - works to improve health through academic research that focuses on the nexus of health and international human rights law. Our team collaborates closely with local partners to build capacity, provide technical assistance, and pursue strategic litigation on health and human rights issues, especially in Latin America.

The Senior Associate for the Healthy Families Initiative works on funded projects and/or academic research projects - including the development of proposals and grant writing, scholarship and substantive project research. Reporting the Initiative's Director, and collaborating with O'Neill Institute Project Directors, as well as faculty members, and other associates, the Senior Associate conducts short-term advanced research projects, including legal and policy research on relevant national and global health law - for example, public health law, international health regulations, and health and human rights); and provides limited supervision to Associates, Research Assistants (RAs) for student research on relevant topics such as legal and policy writing and presentations, as well as participation in related conferences and events. The Senior Associate has duties include but are not limited to

Project Management, Research, and Leadership
  • Perform research and analysis, project organization, and external engagement on assigned topics, with support from and supervision of assigned Associates and RAs
  • Conduct budget review as related to project funding brought in by the Senior Associate


Institute Support
  • Support O'Neill course development, including experiential components such as soliciting external project partners and interacting with external sponsors
  • Develop and participate in class exercises, and review student work
  • Communicate with other institutes and centers, clinics, and professors as needed to obtain information relevant to research projects


Grants and Development
  • Draft and develop project proposals and grant proposals, and engage with outside partners for business development, as supervised by Project Directors
  • Communicate directly with partners and funders for assigned projects, notably projects brought in by Senior Associates


Qualifications
  • Doctorate, JD or JD/MPH
  • At least 4 to 8 years of health law and/or health policy experience, with some supervisory experience
  • Familiarity with both domestic and international health law topics
  • Academic and working knowledge of research topics related to health law
  • Ability to operate professionally and maturely in interactions with academic and other stakeholders
  • Ability to work well as part of a small team, including leading and supervising staff and student work in a professional manner
  • Availability and willingness to travel if required
