Colby seeks a COVID testing specialist to provide and oversee essential COVID-19 diagnostic testing for students, faculty, and staff. The COVID-19 testing specialist will be in direct contact with individuals being tested for COVID-19 and expected to be meticulous, diligent, respectful and personable to all. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist in the training and validation of collection site observers and clerks
  • Complete requisition forms and maintain health information privacy
  • Execute and supervise the collection of nasal swab samples from testing individuals
  • Conduct and supervise onsite sample processing and interpret results
  • Properly label, seal, and prepare collected samples for shipment to lab
  • Work independently and as part of a team to ensure efficiency and accuracy of the collection process
  • Utilize strong verbal and written communication skills to instruct others on proper test collection and processing
  • Provide excellent customer service by working quickly and professionally, while still being personable
  • Ensure safety at all times for individuals being tested and enforce physical distancing guidelines
  • Follow proper infection prevention procedures at all times
  • Perform additional duties as assigned; duties, responsibilities, and activities may change at any time with or without notice

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent required; associate’s degree preferred
  • Current healthcare professional qualification (i.e., Certified Nurse Aide, Certified Medical Assistant, Emergency Medical Technician, Registered Nurse)
  • Direct patient contact required
  • Open to flexible scheduling
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills with a high level of motivation and initiative
  • Attention to detail and accuracy are critical
  • Demonstrated computer skills to perform duties of position
  • Ability to handle confidential information tactfully
  • Must be able to work independently, exercise judgment, and manage testing with minimal supervision as well as to adjust as new projects are assigned
  • Ability to make an impact through work as a member of a team and diverse community
  • Valid driver’s license required and must meet the College’s Fleet Safety Policy requirements

KEY RELATIONSHIPS:

Reporting to the assistant director of health screening and testing, this position works closely with the director of administration and Health Services staff and interacts with students, faculty, and staff.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

General open office and campus environment. Position involves sitting, although frequent movement is necessary. Occasional lifting is required. Computer usage involving repetitive hand/wrist motion is also necessary. Occasional lifting of equipment and materials of less than 50 pounds is required. Position requires scheduling flexibility, with periodic evening and weekend hours. The position requires responding to urgent health-related events and at times requires rapid turnaround of communications on short notice.
