The David Geffen School of Medicine (DGSOM) at UCLA (https://medschool.ucla.edu) announces an open rank, tenured-track/tenured faculty position in the basic sciences (Biological Chemistry, Computational Medicine, Human Genetics, Microbiology, Immunology, & Molecular Genetics, Molecular and Medical Pharmacology, Neurobiology, and Physiology). Candidates must have a MD (or equivalent) and/or a PhD (or equivalent) in a field relevant to one of the above departments. We seek a motivated individual that will contribute leadership to establishing an inclusive environment that champions justice, equity, diversity and inclusion. The successful candidate must demonstrate a history of commitment to the mentorship of students from underrepresented and underserved populations, as well as an outstanding record of scholarly publications and grant funding. The successful candidate will be expected to continue their active research program and their participation in mentoring activities. Service and teaching expectations will be commensurate with other tenure track faculty positions in the DGSOM. An appointment at the level of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor will be offered as appropriate to the applicant's academic standing. We highly encourage applications from women, underrepresented minorities, and individuals with a commitment to mentoring diverse groups in the sciences. UCLA offers competitive salaries, research set-up funds, recruitment allowances, as well as a thriving community of scholars committed to mutually supporting one another.

The DGSOM is one of the top medical schools in the US, number two in the nation for NIH funding (Blue Ridge rankings), and affiliated with one of the nation's pre-eminent health systems. The DGSOM is collocated with the main UCLA campus, in an urban setting. UCLA has been named the number one public university in the nation by US News and World Report for the last four years. It is California's largest university with a diverse student body of 38,000 undergraduate and graduate students, approximately 25% of whom are members of underrepresented minority groups. UCLA is on track to becoming a federally-designated Hispanic-Serving Institution by 2025. It is known both for its excellence in research and education and is home to a number of UCOP, NIH, NSF, and HHMI funded training programs focused on increasing success for underrepresented students in science, medical, and allied health fields. DGSOM partners with the rest of the campus in supporting innovative programs that foster the success of its diverse community of undergraduate, medical and graduate students, postdoctoral scholars, and faculty. These programs include the UC-HBCU (University of California- Historically Black Colleges and Universities), BRI-SURE (Brain Research Institute- Summer Undergraduate Research Experience), MARC (Maximizing Access to Research Careers), and U-STAR (Undergraduate Student Training in Academic Research) programs.

Review of applications will begin on 1st October, 2021 and will continue until the position is filled. Any inquiries about the position and nominations of potential candidates should be sent to the search committee chair: Professor Samantha Butler (butlersj@ucla.edu).
