General Description

Under the direction of the Dean, Academic Services CTE and WFD, the CTE Student Success Coordinator will be assigned to work with the District’s Career Technical Education students and will employ best practices in an effort to increase student success. These practices include but are not limited to the following: regular and frequent contact with all students under their assignment; logging/tracking individual student progress/records; flexible work hours including evening and weekend, and planning and tracking relevant budgets and expenditures.

The CTE Student Success Coordinator will meet with students to create an academic engagement plan, set goals, and share resources to help students achieve their objectives within and beyond the classroom environment. The CTE Student Success Coordinator will provide leadership in the CCPT Program through outreach to students and campus partners.

This position is assigned to the Visalia College Campus, M- F 7:45 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. Full-Time 12-months. Initial placement is at $64,563.

Job Duties

Job duties of the CTE Student Success Coordinator include:

In additional to, and related to, services provided COS Counselors:

  • Identify and track Career Technical Education students.
  • Coordinate an academic success program for students while promoting an environment of academic excellence and promoting student success and retention.
  • Coordinate between instructors, student services staff, counselors, and administrators to enhance the academic success of students.
  • Facilitate appropriate responses to student Early Alerts.
  • Administer a regular schedule of recurring student meetings to address student needs.
  • Record attendance and individualized comments for each student after each session. Document progress, goals, to-do list, and any other information-requiring follow-up.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential records of every student interaction including in-person visits, phone, and online consultations.
  • Through professional development, provide active leadership on current issues and trends related to college students’ academic success and retention.
  • Facilitate academic success presentations and workshops to various campus partners.
  • Oversee and develop reports to assist in the assessment of the Student Success Program.
  • Other duties as assigned including night/weekend assignments, group meetings, and off-campus outreach.
  • Qualifications

    Minimum Qualifications (Education & Experience):

    Any combination equivalent to:

    Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution and two years of professional experience in education or the equivalent.

    This positions require strong critical thinking and communications skills, as well as the ability to work independently while developing strong collaborative relationships with colleagues, students, student services, and academic services units. The individuals must be able to exercise excellent professional judgment and discretion, making decisions on a regular basis that impact student welfare and the District. And Demonstrated sensitivity to, and understanding of, the diverse academic, social, economic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

    Desirable Qualifications:

  • Skill assessing academic difficulties, developing appropriate remedies and evaluating and assessing effectiveness of student support intervention.
  • Experience working with under-represented populations and the ability to work successfully with students of diverse backgrounds.
  • Organizational skills with the ability to efficiently and effectively manage multiple work priorities.
  • Outstanding customer service skills.
  • Licenses and Other Requirements:

  • Valid California driver’s license.
  • An incumbent must be insurable at the “standard rate” by the employer’s insurance carrier at all times while employed in this classification by the College of the Sequoias

    The hiring committee is seeking evidence of the following:

    Knowledge of:

  • Research, assessment and evaluation theory, design, methodology, survey sampling, and analytical techniques.
  • Trends/practices in education including planning, teaching/learning, policy, administration, and community colleges.
  • Data collection and coding.
  • Technical research report writing.
  • Research software applications for data gathering, data analysis, data management, spreadsheet, presentation, graphics, and word processing software applications such as Survey Monkey, Banner, Crystal Reports, Argos, Tableau, SPSS (Statistical Package Social Science), and Microsoft Access, Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint
  • Qualitative and quantitative data analyses techniques.
  • Inferential and descriptive statistics.
  • Correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation and vocabulary.

  • Ability to:

  • Demonstrate evidence of sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of college students, staff, and the community.
  • Read, analyze, and interpret policy documents/reports.
  • Present information orally to individuals and small groups and respond to common inquiries.
  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Operate a variety of office machines including computer terminal, Scantron, scanner, fax machine, copier, and other office equipment.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships/partnerships with others both inside and outside COS.
  • Conduct research, collect, compile, assemble, analyze, and report a variety of data and information used for analysis of institutional planning issues, decision-making, trend monitoring, reports, and publications.
  • Perform appropriate data analyses (both quantitative and qualitative) and interpret results and findings.
  • Review and verify input and output data to assure accuracy, efficiency, effectiveness, and validity.
  • Gather, validate, and interpret data from a wide variety of sources, including literature and online/Internet searches.
  • Establish priorities, plan, and organize a variety of work assignments.
  • Work accurately and independently with minimal supervision while meeting schedules and time lines.
  • Establish and maintain comprehensive and accurate files and records, prepare concise and complete reports.
  • Maintain confidentiality when dealing with sensitive and privileged material and information.
  • Learn new ideas, procedures, processes, and computer software quickly and independently.
  • Show willingness to participate in cross-training activities; ability to learn quickly and retain new information.

    College of the Sequoias is a two-year California community college offering educational and enrichment programs for the residents of its district in Tulare and Kings counties. The college was established in 1925 and moved to its current 62-acre main campus site in Visalia in 1940.

    In addition to the campus in Visalia, COS operates a full-service center in Hanford that is also home to the college's police and fire academies.

    COS also opened its Tulare College Center in January 2013. It is a full-service college center and the home of COS' agriculture program
