The Office of Advancement has an opening for a full-time University Staff (unclassified) Development Associate position.

Department Summary:

The University of Colorado Office of Advancement at the Anschutz Medical Campus helps move CU forward by matching benefactor passions with university priorities and initiatives. Charged with raising millions of dollars each year to support education, research and clinical care, we forge relationships and foster connections among CU’s faculty, staff, students and community to advance CU Anschutz’s dual promise of delivering the best health care in the world today while reinventing the health care of tomorrow.

Job Summary:

This Development Associate position will develop and implement fundraising strategies and activities to carry forward the mission and vision of the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus. This position will be part of the Philanthropic Growth program to educate, inspire and partner with patients, alumni and community members who give to CU Anschutz.

Examples of Work Performed:

Benefactor/Prospect Contact: 80% time

  • Thanks supporters within 1 week of their gift through phone calls, personal emails and notecards.
  • Identifies supporters who want to learn more and could be potential prospects for major giving and planned gifts
  • Provides pro-active cultivation and stewardship to mid-level benefactors via birthday cards, updates on breakthroughs and determine interest
  • Partners with Development Officers, Stewardship, Planned Giving, Prospect Research, and Patient Coordinated Services to learn and assist with the development cycle and moves management.
  • Manages all requests by patient and donors receiving mail and email
  • Create and maintain crowdfunding pages for families and friends who want to remember or honor their loved ones.
  • Documents all communication with patients and benefactors through contact reports
  • Develops and maintains a deep understanding of institutional priorities, academic programs and centers of excellence in order to translate these assets into compelling funding opportunities and align them with funders’ interests.
  • Compiles materials regarding research breakthroughs and exciting opportunities to be able to educate and inspire benefactors in their area of interest
  • Assists Office of Advancement in ensuring HIPAA compliance
  • Represents the University at events in order to support the University and cultivate donors.
Marketing Functions: 20% time

  • Coordinate ongoing mailings and emails to new patients and supporters by working with the database team and vendors.
  • Manage thank you call process for Development Officers and Assistants making thank you calls
  • Run reports using Advance database and Salesforce to measure success of marketing efforts
  • Learn best practices for fundraising marketing.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Salary and Benefits:

  • The salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established at $49,104-$55,000
  • The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.
  • The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
  • This position is not eligible for overtime compensation.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:

  • Four years of experience with fundraising, direct mail marketing or customer service.
  • Substitution: College or university course work appropriate to the work assignment, may substitute on a year for year basis for the experience.
  • Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.
Preferred Qualifications:

  • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Professional experience working in non-profit, events and/or development/fundraising.
  • Professional experience calling donors or customers.
  • Experience with print or digital marketing production.
  • Experience using donor database software such as Advance, Salesforce or a similar software.
Competencies:

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution.

  • Knowledge of general office procedures, protocol and professionalism; expert knowledge of Business English, spelling, punctuation and grammar.

  • Proven ability to work in a team environment, develop effective interpersonal relationships, provide superior customer service, and communicate verbally and in writing.
  • Proven data entry skills with ability to input information accurately; prepare and maintain detailed records, files, and reports on an ongoing basis. - Solid ability to coordinate technical presentations including hardware set up.
  • Solid knowledge of database management with the ability to query reports, utilize data, and convert programs.
  • Solid ability to work with accuracy and attention to detail and solid knowledge of money handling and mathematics.
  • Solid knowledge of multi-line phone system.
  • Personal computer proficiency required, especially as related to Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher and Access; and Database applications.
