ESSENTIAL FUNCTION

The Grants Specialist assists with the daily operations of the Grant Development Office. Under the direction of the Director of Grants Development, the Grants Specialist will provide support to faculty and staff to prepare grant proposals by: 1) writing and editing proposal narratives; 2) researching data in support of application requirements; 3) coordinating grant writing to comply with Triton College's grants administration process. The Grants Specialist will be delegated responsibility for components of proposal development and will interact collegially with faculty and staff in the development of grant proposals and application documents. The Grants Development Specialist will provide support to the grants administration process as assigned. The position is part of a centralized grants office for identifying potential grant, developing grant proposals and monitoring active grant awards.

RESPONSIBLITIES


PROGRAM ADMINISTRATION

1. Coordinates with faculty and/or staff to write proposal narratives in support of grant applications to Federal, State, and Local funding agencies and corporate/private foundations.

2. In conjunction with Director of Grants Development, monitors grants administration process to ensure compliance, timely application submission, and meet reporting deadlines.

3. Provide expert editorial assistance to faculty and staff in the development of grant proposals.

4. Research needed facts, background information, and other required data for proposal development

5. Edit and proofread texts of grant proposals and applications, including recommending reorganization for better flow, rewording for clarity, and adherence to RFP requirements.

6. Assist to prepare interim grant reports to submit to funding agency

7. Assist to prepare internal reports as required by the grants administration process.

8. Perform other related duties in support of the work described here-in.

1. Maintains membership and participates in professional activities of appropriate local, state, and national organizations.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION

Master's Degree in related field (marketing/communications, journalism, education, with coursework in planning, marketing, research, or business).

EXPERIENCE

Minimum of five years experience in project planning, grant proposal research and writing. Experience leading planning sessions resulting in project plans (goals, objectives, activities) and related outcomes.

KNOWLEDGE

Strong persuasive writing skills and knowledge of English grammar, vocabulary, and spelling. Ability to read, comprehend, and interpret complex grant applications. Ability to prioritize project development tasks and to work in a team environment to realize a shared objective. A comprehensive knowledge of project design and project management in an educational environment. Knowledge of non-profit program management, including budgeting and program evaluation.

SKILLS

Facilitate group discussions utilizing the Logic Model as a project design tool. Able to work with teams of individuals to obtain information relevant to project design, goals and objectives, and expected outcomes in order to prepare a draft proposal document for review. Possess an understanding of evaluation methods. Able to research data to substantiate "Statements of Need" in proposal narratives and grant applications. Excellent communication and team skills. Skill in scheduling, prioritizing, and finalizing activities to meet deadlines. Excellent oral and written communication skills and interpersonal and organizational skills. Experience in MS Office Suite with well developed word processing, spreadsheet skills.
