The Butler University School of Music, in the Jordan College of the Arts, is inviting applications and nominations for Assistant Professor of Musicology, tenure-track. Primary responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and graduate Music History courses that emphasize the periods after 1800, global musics, and existing Music History or Ethnomusicology courses that satisfy the Social Justice and Diversity requirement of the Butler University Core Curriculum. Academic advising, student mentoring, attendance at faculty meetings (area, department, college, and university), committee participation, and service to the university and community is expected of the successful candidate. Two of Butler’s key strategic goals are “to create an intentionally diverse, inclusive, and equitable campus community,” and to “build a culture of empowerment, engagement and accountability.” The successful candidate will actively contribute to building an inclusive learning environment for an increasingly diverse student population, and demonstrate commitment to teaching diverse repertoires. Continuing excellence in teaching, scholarly/creative activity, and service is expected to qualify for reappointment, tenure, and promotion. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Doctorate in music (ABD is acceptable) Evidence of successful teaching at the collegiate level APPLICATION: Review of applications will begin September 15, 2021 and will continue until the position is filled.
