The Department of Craniofacial Biology has a full time opening for a Postdoctoral Fellow in the laboratory Dr. Cheng Jun Hu. The postdoctoral fellow will be working in the area of pulmonary hypertension, studying the mechanisms involved in pulmonary vascular remodeling and the response of the lung vasculature to hypoxia and other injuries. Specifically, the post-doctoral fellow will perform mechanistic studies in hypoxia-induced pulmonary hypertension animal models as well as in tissues/cells from PH patients.

This research group works closely with the group of Dr. Kurt Stenamrk, combining the strengths of both the Hu and Stenmark labs by employing physiological, molecular and translational approaches. The labs utilize a wide variety of model systems including primary human pulmonary vascular cells (Fibroblast, smooth muscle cell and endothelial cells) and lung tissues, small animals (mice and rats), and big animal (cow).  Current projects include studies of the alteration of the components (including chromatin structure, expression/activates of epigenetic regulators, and expression/activities of transcription factors) that are critical in controlling gene expression in pulmonary vascular cells from PH animals and patients.

Supervision received:

Dr. Kurt Stenmark is the principal investigator of the project. The post-doctoral fellow will be working with and under the supervision of co-Investigator Dr. Cheng-jun Hu who has a separate established lab on the Anschutz Medical Campus.

Examples of work performed:
