The University of Virginia is seeking a Director of UVA Parents Fund to join the University Advancement team. The UVA Parents Fund enhances the student experience through annual gifts from parents of current and former students. Directed by the UVA Parents Committee, the Parents Fund supports student clubs and cultural events, academic enhancement programs and career services, health and wellness initiatives, and class dinners and traditions that enrich student life across Grounds.

Reporting to the Senior Director of Development, the Director of Development will play a leadership role on a growing, highly integrated, and collaborative advancement team pursuing ambitious fundraising goals at the mid-point of the University's multi-billion dollar Honor the Future campaign. Responsibilities include planning and creating fundraising strategies, including major gifts, planned giving, annual giving, stewardship, events, and committee/board management. In addition, the Director will manage their own portfolio and cultivate and solicit major gifts. The Director will represent the Parents Fund team both within the development community and to University leadership. The Director will typically supervise a team of Development staff and are responsible for ensuring that their goals are met.

The Director of the UVA Parents fund will:

  • Supervise development staff to create effective fundraising strategies, specifically focused on parents of current and former UVA students.

  • Create and execute effective engagement strategies throughout the academic year that promote a welcoming and rewarding environment in which parents of UVA students can engage.

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive fundraising plan to include special events, communications, annual campaigns, and major gift strategies that align with UVA Parents Fund mission and University priorities and initiatives.

  • Advance the mission, vision and short- and long-term goals of the UVA Parents Fund and the University, including campaign priorities, using agreed upon metrics and accountability.

  • Work collaboratively with development colleagues across Grounds and establish team approaches to fundraising.

  • Mentor and provide guidance to development officers regarding best practices in parent engagement and fundraising, trip planning and follow up, stewardship of donors, and building working relationships with faculty and students.

  • In consultation with senior leadership, develop and implement goals, objectives, and metrics for measuring performance.

  • Build and manage a portfolio of current and prospective major-gift level donors ($100K+) and move them towards giving levels that achieve annual and long-range fundraising goals of the University.

  • As permitted, travel nationally to identify, cultivate, and solicit parent prospects.

  • In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree with at least eight years’ experience is required.

  • Ability to frequently travel domestically with occasional evening and weekend work is required.

  • Must have a valid driver's license.

  • Preference will be given to candidates with prior experience in non-profit or higher education fundraising and staffing senior leaders and volunteers.

COVID Vaccination Requirement

The University of Virginia expects all current and new employees (UVA Health System and Academic), to be vaccinated against COVID-19.

If hired to work within the University Health System, you will be required to provide proof of vaccination or be willing to receive the vaccination. Employees may request a medical or religious exemption from vaccination.
