The Assistant Director of Gift Planning will represent the University of Virginia, its programs, policies, personnel, traditions, philosophy, and objectives to all constituent groups. The primary focus of this position will be to cultivate relationships with individuals (alumni, family, and friends of the University of Virginia) to actively solicit future support, deferred, and major outright gifts to the University, its schools, and its programs.
The Assistant Director will be responsible for managing a portfolio of planned gift prospects and developing a comprehensive solicitation and stewardship strategy for the portfolio and any assigned liaison relationships. The liaison role includes working closely with the assigned school or unit to provide Planned Gift prospect lists; to attend team/staff meetings, as appropriate and to coordinate efforts to increase planned gifts. In addition, the Assistant Director will identify, qualify and cultivate UVA planned gift prospects using prospect lists for in-person visits, emails, and phone calls. This position will also provide sample bequest language and less complex gift calculations as needed to actively solicit planned gifts from their portfolio and liaison relationships. In addition, this position requires an ability to travel on behalf of the University and occasional evening and weekend responsibilities.
The ideal candidate is required to have a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, with some experience in finance, law, or estate planning. Planned giving experience and/or three years of relevant experience is preferred.Experience as a financial planner, trust officer, or estate planning attorney will also be considered.
The qualified candidate will possess exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to interact effectively with major gifts prospects, fundraising colleagues, academic leaders, faculty, alumni, and volunteers. The candidate should demonstrate excellent oral and written communication; possess the ability to analyze and present clear information; possess the ability to work independently and as part of a team and understand and articulate the University's educational mission, strategic aims, and programs.
This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers.
This position will remain open until filled. This is an Exempt level, benefited position.
