Position Summary

The Student-Athlete Academic Support Services (SSP I/A) Tutor, provides academic support through graduation. The purpose of the program’s services and activities is to assist and support student-athletes in achieving high academic success and personal integrity while progressing toward a degree objective.

Tutors foster student independence, active learning, and motivation in the learning process by utilizing techniques that encourage students to analyze the course content on their own. The role of the tutor is to change students’ thinking and clarify course material during individual and group tutorial sessions. Tutors will provide both individual and group tutoring to student-athletes.

This is an intermittent, hourly, temporary position anticipated to end on or before June 30, 2022 with the possibility of reappointment. Work hours will vary based on operational needs.

Education and Experience

Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration or a job‑ related field. Specialized experience during which the applicant has acquired and successfully applied the knowledge and abilities shown above may be substituted for the required education on a year‑ for‑ year basis.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience working with at-risk student-athletes
  • Knowledge of student development theories and/or pedagogical practices. Prior tutoring experience in Division One Student Athlete Academic Support Services Department
  • Flexibility with schedule (some nights and weekends)

Compliance with all NCAA, conference, and San Diego State University rules, policies and procedures is of paramount importance to the university. All position responsibilities should be carried out in full compliance with all such rules and regulations.

Compensation and Benefits

Starting salary upon appointment is not expected to exceed $20.27 per hour. CSU Classification Salary Range: $20.27 - $24.80 per hour. Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources.
