Job Details
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
•Assist with the coordination of all aspects of summer and winter orientation programs for new first-year and transfer students, including the development of publications and website material.
•Plan and facilitate comprehensive new student transition programs in the fall and spring semesters as part of the new student orientation program.
•Collaborate with OSLE in the planning and implementation of campus wide programs and traditions, including Welcome Week, Fall Festival, MusicFest, etc.
•Plan and implement all class related programming, including senior-class recognition.
•Serve as program advisor to a diverse group of student organizations on campus.
•Coordinate weekly email newsletter (This Week at Hofstra) to student population.
•Oversee planning and implementation of off-campus exploration trips each semester.
•Develop an annual operating budget and ensure that University resources are utilized efficiently, ethically, and effectively. Monitor and maintain budgetary controls and accountability.
•Exercise judgment and independent initiative; handle time-sensitive matters that require concise problem-solving and a high degree of confidentiality.
•Serve as an active member of the Administrative Conduct Board for the Office of Community Standards including all required training.
•Serve on university committees and divisional committees as assigned; attend all applicable training sessions.
•Assist in all aspects of office operations, including contributions to strategic planning and assessment efforts.
•Help develop new initiatives based on current research and best practices in the field.
•Directly supervises one graduate assistant and student staff, including 3-4 Welcome Week Coordinators and 100 Welcome Week Leaders. Assist with the supervision of orientation staff and student office workers.
•Fulfill other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:Required Qualifications:
•Masters degree required in a related field (e.g., student affairs, education, counseling).
•A minimum of one year’s experience in a related area (student activities, leadership, programming, orientation, etc.).
•Ability to effectively supervise graduate and undergraduate staff.
•Knowledge of student development theories and the ability to apply them appropriately.
•A demonstrated commitment to the holistic development of diverse student populations.
•Excellent interpersonal, problem-solving, written and oral communication/presentation skills.
•Ability to work effectively and ethically with a diverse population of students, University faculty/administrators, and community members.
•Willing to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends as required.
•Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Access, Banner, Adobe Photoshop, desktop publishing and web content management system software.

•Ability to manage multiple projects and responsibilities, and perform highly detailed work
•Have a collaborative disposition and possess the ability to think both critically and strategically
•Eagerness to be present on campus, including extended hours as needed, including evening, early morning and weekend responsibilities.
