Job Description

The Department of Biological Sciences at Missouri University of Science & Technology (Missouri S&T) invites applications for a tenure track faculty position at the Assistant Professor level in the area of genetics. The position is anticipated to begin in August 2022. The faculty member is expected to be involved in undergraduate and graduate education, conduct internationally recognized and externally funded research, and participate in service to the university and the profession. The faculty member will teach introductory genetics, as well as offer specialized courses in their area of expertise. Potential advanced undergraduate and graduate courses could include molecular genetics, genomics, and bioinformatics.

Minimum Qualifications Ph.D. in genetics or an equivalent degree, record of research accomplishments in genetics or related field, commitment to excellence in teaching and student training at all levels, and excellent communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications We are seeking highly motivated individuals with strong research credentials. Particular consideration will be given to candidates who can complement or expand S&T and UM System initiatives. Unique opportunities are available for the candidate to develop connections to the new Kummer College of Innovation, Entrepreneurship, and Economic Development. Preferred qualifications of the successful candidate include:

    Expertise in developing or using innovative tools to generate and/or integrate multiple types of biological data;Postdoctoral research or equivalent experience;Demonstration of capacity to engage multi-investigator and multi-disciplinary research teams;Participation in activities that enhance the visibility of the university;Commitment to Biological Sciences department goals of increasing recruitment of students from under-represented groups and providing an inclusive and supportive environment for all students.

About the Department

The department offers undergraduate degrees in biological sciences and environmental sciences (newly approved for 2022) and a Master’s degree in biology. The department has approximately 230 undergraduate students, which is the largest undergraduate program in the College of Arts, Sciences, and Business. Department faculty conduct research in diverse areas ranging from population genetics to environmental microbiology and have received support from NIH, NSF, as well as a variety of regional and national agencies and foundations. Faculty have access to the 16 research centers and consortia on campus (, core facilities at other UM System campuses (, and a university-run field station ( The department is housed in Schrenk Hall. This position will come with newly renovated lab space.
