We have highly skilled and innovative staff who support the academic and student success mission of the college. We are seeking a collaborative team member as the Director of Academic Operations. The successful candidate will assist with managing the curriculum and the curriculum process along with managing academic based technology needs. Knowledge of the curriculum development approval process, college catalog updates, academic planning system and its intersection with student advising is needed. The successful candidate will serve as the point of contact for academic information and the primary contact for academic based technology. The successful candidate in this position will also collaborate with the information technology unit to design, create, and implement training in academic technology for all faculty and staff. The successful candidate will bring a student success approach to this work and maintain a collaborative relationship approach to providing support for the holistic student experience.

Specific Duties and ResponsibilitiesSPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The employee in this role reports directly to the Provost and Vice-President of Leaning. In this role, the successful applicant will be responsible for several major processes that impact the success of our students along with the faculty and staff who engage in student success.

  • Serve as the academic data custodian for all course, program, academic planning protocols and reports;
  • Serve as the co-leader of the curriculum meetings and ensures adjustments to academic information meets state regulations and rules for submission;
  • Manages and oversees the curriculum approval process;
  • Establish protocols for college-wide academic timelines and set deadlines for course schedule development, Catalog Development and Curriculum Development timelines and coordinate with Student Services for related timelines;
  • Analyzes, measures and reports academic data as well as information on student progress, course completion, academic plans and state requirements;
  • Directs and oversees academic technology needs and requests, in collaboration with Information Technology Management Team, for faculty, staff and students;
  • Serves as the technology systems administrator in Division of Learning and determines levels of access for faculty, staff, and students;
  • Structures academic systems for use by faculty, staff, and students;
  • Initiates and approves academic technical changes for academic systems;
  • Establishes goals, objectives and timelines of college-wide training programs in academic technology for faculty and staff;
  • Institutes and manages technology training cycles and updates each academic year;
  • Designs training plans and develops training materials, including end-users manuals and online information;
  • Coordinates and evaluates training activities;

  • Knowledge of academic technology and academic technology systems
  • Knowledge of higher education academic development protocols and timelines
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with colleagues across the organization to achieve student success goals and implement college-wide initiatives
  • Knowledge of the curriculum development and management process
  • Knowledge of student engagement strategies that support completion and student success goals
  • Demonstrated experience providing feedback to colleagues to enhance their knowledge of academic technology and academic technology systems
  • Maintain an ongoing program of professional development and participate in professional organizations, workshops, seminars, conferences and activities
  • Mastery of appropriate computer operation skills
    Minimum Education and Training
  • Bachelor Degree in Computer Technology, Information Technology, Information Systems Management, Secondary Education, Higher Education, or closely related field, Required
  • Master’s degree in Information Systems Management, Information Technology, Computer Technology, Curriculum Development, Higher Education, or closely related field, Preferred
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience working with student record systems in the areas of registration, records, curriculum operations and data management
  • Experience using word processing, basic internet applications, and basic database navigation.
  • Experience writing technical reports
  • Experience problem solving in the management of academic technology systems and
  • Experience leading academic operations teams, demonstrating creativity and innovation
  • Ability to research, interpret, and implement COMAR, MHEC and MSDE Regulations, FERPA of 1974, CSM Administrative Manual, College Policies and Procedures, and the Faculty Handbook
  • Ability to represent the College to local and state education partners such as MHEC and MACC
  • Ability to develop policy and present training materials that engage a diverse population
  • Ability to use an education enterprise, learning management system such as D2L Brightspace to support and facilitate learning.
  • Ability to develop and present training materials that engages a diverse audience
  • Support and promote the college and discipline missions centered on excellence in teaching and learning through curriculum enhancement and service.
