Summary of Duties

The Classroom Technology Specialist is responsible for ensuring that instructional classroom equipment is properly located, is in operating order, and that faculty and staff are properly trained in the use of the equipment as well as have an understanding how to incorporate the technology associated with the equipment.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Administer the day-to-day activities of audiovisual equipment used on and off campus. (e.g. data projection systems, podium computers, audio and videoconferencing equipment, video switchers, microphones, video cameras, audio systems, laptops, and operations of integrated AV systems.)
  • Execute all aspects of video/audio/web conferencing and webcasting infrastructures including but not limited to setup, end-user training, problem management, reporting, vendor management, asset management, capacity planning and service level agreements.
  • Provide training for faculty, staff and IT Student Workers in the effective use of new and current technologies for instructional and administrative purposes.
  • Provide individual assistance to faculty in the use of instructional technologies, assist in the delivery of collective workshops, and promote and assist in the implementation of new instructional technologies.
  • Provide design consultation in planning improvements and renovations that involve retrofitting or creating new classrooms which utilize instructional technologies.
  • Analyze new technologies for application to the teaching and learning environment and technology infrastructures.
  • Assist in the procurement and installation of instructional technologies.
  • Document/maintain equipment operating procedures, prepare/maintain an inventory of relevant equipment and assets, and create/deploy maintenance schedules.
  • Develop semester video conferencing schedule in consultation with academic faculty and communicate with appropriate college personnel.
  • Day, evening, weekend and event work will be required on and off campus.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Experience, Skills & Abilities

    Required:

  • A minimum of one year experience in AV technical support for end-users and equipment.
  • One year experience of video conferencing technologies.
  • Experience presenting and hosting off campus guests when needed. Proficiency with web and video conferencing software and hardware.
  • Basic experience in maintaining and troubleshooting PC problems.
  • Demonstrated skills in using Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and work efficiently under pressure and subject to changing priorities, proven experience managing multiple projects and tasks, meeting deadlines, and using judgment and initiative in problem resolution.
  • Requires a highly organized individual with excellent communication (oral and written) and customer skills and the ability to work in a collaborative team environment.
  • Requires a self-motivator; an appreciation for working with diverse individuals; and an interest in lifelong learning.
  • Must be committed to the two-year college mission.
  • Preferred:
    • Experience with Extron or Creston room control systems is strongly.
    • Polycom and/or other remote video conferencing experience.
    • Knowledge using Turning Point, or other clicker programs, Par Score/Test, and Data Card software.
    • Proficiency with digital imaging tools, multimedia editing, and delivery tools.
    • Purchasing experience desirable. Supervisory experience desirable.
    • Strong desire to learn and the ability to teach others.
    Education & Certifications

    Required:

  • An Associate’s degree with a strong aptitude for technology.
  • Preferred:
    • Bachelor’s degree with a strong aptitude for technology.
