Job Summary:

The Scholarship Coordinator/Academic Advisor reports to the Director of Academic Advising and Retention. Responsible for coordinating and administering scholarships for new and current students. Assists in advising by providing information, advice, and assistance to students planning to attend Lamar State College – Port Arthur. Support student success by sharing information about assessment, careers, course selection, registration, graduation requirements, and support services.
Establish a relationship with Enrollment Services and local high school counselors to promote scholarship opportunities maintained by LSCPA. Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in a related area. Some knowledge of academic advising and scholarship administration.

Key competencies:
Working knowledge of personal computer and various software. Ability to communicate effectively including public speaking. Ability to maintain confidentiality. Ability to solve problems and be multi-tasked. Ability to evaluate programs and procedures. Ability to deal with students, faculty and staff in professional manner. Must be able to demonstrate sensitivity to the needs of students from diverse backgrounds. Ability to plan, schedule, and manage projects and assignments. Ability to establish effective working relationships with others. Ability to follow established college policies and procedures.

To perform the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, use a work computer, and use the campus wide student information system. The employee is occasionally required to pull, push, and crawl. The employee must regularly lift and carry up to 30 pounds, and move up to 30 pounds. Requires infrequent stooping, bending, sorting, and filing.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master’s degree preferred. Experience in a higher education environment. Two to four years of experience in jobs leading to this, or similar jobs.

Work Hours:

40 hours a week Monday-Friday, some weekends and evenings maybe required.

Essential Job Functions:

Process and analyze scholarship applications for the Institutional Scholarship Committee and supervisors to meet selection criteria.

Prepare all scholarship distributions and correspondences with students. Inform scholarship recipients of the scholarship rules and regulations.

Coordinate the annual Scholarship Banquet in conjunction with the Office of the President Office—i.e. invitations, food, reservations, seating, program, and other event requirements.

Promote, coordinate, and track scholarship opportunities maintained by LSCPA.

Collaborate with Enrollment Management, faculty and staff in order to promote scholarships.

Develop, manage, and maintain scholarship policies, procedures, and operations to ensure appropriate disbursement and fiscal accountability.

Collaborate with Public Information Coordinator to develop marketing literature to promote awareness of scholarship opportunities for students, and scholarships for
specific majors.

Develop a record tracking system required to ensure continued qualification of students on scholarships.

Counsel technical and academic students on career selection, course development, and individual advisement. Ensure that all students are in compliance with TSIA regulations.
