In serving its mission of providing excellence in patient care and service in mental health, the department operates several clinical service lines, covering a full spectrum of psychiatric disorders across the life span. We provide these services in both inpatient and outpatient settings. These services are offered at the department-operated outpatient centers, at various affiliated community sites across Eastern North Carolina, and Vidant Medical Center, a 900+ bed tertiary care academic medical center.

The Department has a strong collaborative relationship with the ECU Center for Telepsychiatry and e-Behavioral Health (CTeBH), a national leader in the field of telepsychiatry. Two of the largest programs in the ECU CTeBH are the Maternal Outreach using Telehealth for Rural Sites (MOTHeRS) Project, providing services to expectant or new mothers at community-based, primary care, obstetric clinics; and the North Carolina Statewide Telepsychiatry Program (NC-STeP), the largest telepsychiatry program in the state and one of the largest such programs in the nation. This program is currently serving its network of 41 hospitals and 16 community-based clinics, using its 6 clinical provider hubs across the state with 42 consultant providers.

Job Duties :

This is a full-time faculty psychiatrist position to provide clinical services, predominantly via telepsychiatry, to patients presenting in community sites and or/emergency departments of hospitals affiliated with the North Carolina Statewide Telepsychiatry Program (NC-STeP).

The psychiatrist will spend most of his/her time providing direct clinical service. The position will report to the Medical Director of the Center and will also assist with monitoring and improving NC-STeP outcomes; integrating with community-based providers; and implementing evidenced based practices.

Fixed Term Only: Clinical Assistant Professor or Clinical Associate Professor.

Minimum Education/Experience :

1. Medical degree or equivalent degree from an appropriately accredited institution.

2. Completion of an accredited psychiatric residency training program.
3. Evidence of Board Certification in Psychiatry, OR that you are eligible for appropriate board certification as specified in the ECU Physicians Credentialing Plan. If not yet board certified, board certification will be expected in accordance with ECU Physicians Credentialing Plan.



License or Certification Required by Statute or Regulation :

Must be eligible for medical licensure in the State of North Carolina

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education :

1. Experience in providing telepsychiatry services using multiple platforms and EHRs. 2. Experience working in an integrated (collaborative) care setting 3. Experience working collaboratively with other health professionals as part of a multidisciplinary team. 4. Experience in emergency psychiatry.
5. Experience working in academic healthcare settings
