Description:

Reporting to the Vice President for Student Affairs, the Title IX Coordinator for Student Issues is responsible for assisting with the University's compliance with student related aspects of Title IX, with a focus on training and the University's response to reports and complaints by students against students relating to Title IX. The Title IX Coordinator for Student Issues provides procedural guidance to campus colleagues on investigations and findings of responsibility on Title IX issues relating to students as outlined in the Student Policy Prohibiting Sexual Assault, Domestic Violence, Dating Violence, and Stalking; the Title IX Grievance Policy; and the Prohibited Bias and Discriminatory Harassment Policy. The Title IX Coordinator for Student Issues works closely with the Title IX Coordinator for Employee Matters, other administrators with Title IX responsibilities, the Office of General Counsel, Public Safety, and other Student Affairs administrators around issues relating to Title IX and state laws addressing issues of gender equity and sexual assault prevention and response.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Oversee the University's response to reports and complaints by students against students of sexual harassment, relationship violence, and sexual misconduct; and for addressing any patterns or systemic problems revealed by such reports and complaints against students.
• Review and monitor student policies and practices to ensure compliance with applicable local, state, and federal legislation, law, regulations and guidance; assist in reviewing and monitoring University policies and practices related to Title IX and related New York State laws.
• Collaborate with other campus officials to respond to all student related inquiries and/or complaints regarding rights and responsibilities concerning harassing behavior or other discriminatory behavior by students in violation of Title IX.
• Meet and communicate with students regarding related policies, processes, complaints, or cases.
• Provide referrals to University and external resources and support services as appropriate.
• Recommend and coordinate appropriate interim and supportive measures while any investigation or inquiry is ongoing. Monitor compliance of all relevant requirements and timelines.
• Assist in the resolution of complex harassment and discrimination cases against students and alternative resolutions in conjunction with relevant campus departments.
• Maintain records related to Title IX inquiries, investigations, processes, and information.
• Advise and educate student organizations with interests in gender equity and sexual assault prevention and response; co-advise campus It's On Us group and its efforts.
• Work closely with other University and Division of Student Affairs (DSA) offices and colleagues, including General Counsel; Public Safety; Dean of Students; Community Standards; Residence Life; Student Leadership and Engagement; Student Advocacy and Prevention Awareness; and Student Affairs Communication.
• Monitor local, state and federal legislation, laws, regulations, guidance, and trends in higher education related to harassment, discriminatory practices, and personal violence that violate Title IX.
• Participate actively in professional development activities (research, workshops, conferences, trainings, local organizations, etc.) related to Title IX and related state laws
• Assist in preparing, disseminating, and publishing educational materials for students and employees regarding campus resources and Title IX rights and responsibilities of our community members.
• Lead and coordinate all student related Title IX training efforts, including reporting procedures, training hearing administrators, Welcome Week/New Student Orientation, and student staff training. Partner with off-campus experts and other campus departments to provide education to areas or student populations identified as at-risk by research or analysis of University-collected data
• Assist with the coordination of the University’s Chosen Name Policy and support for pregnant and/or parenting students
• Help coordinate large scale campus programming related to sexual assault and harassment prevention
• Serve on appropriate DSA and campus wide committees
• Assist in coordinating regular campus climate surveys and other assessments in cooperation with Institutional Research and other relevant campus departments.

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:
• An earned graduate degree in a related field, such as higher education, human services, social work, counseling, law or related field of study
• A minimum of three years of full-time professional experience in higher education and/or student affairs administration
• Expertise and experience working with college students interpersonally and training them in group settings
• Familiarity with legal issues related to Title IX and student conduct administration; proven ability to lead efforts to ensure compliance with applicable laws, policies and guidelines
• Capacity and desire to interact with individuals of varying social, cultural, economic, and educational backgrounds
• Demonstrated ability to build trusting, strong, professional relationships with students, faculty and staff; build relationships, work as a team as well as independently and maintain positive professional relationships
• Ability to foster an integrated team approach to community education and grievance resolution
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities and possess outstanding written and oral communication skills
• Strong mediation, problem-solving, and decision-making skills; ability to work with time­ sensitive matters and meet strict deadlines, ability to maintain confidentiality
• Strong quantitative and analytical skills and comfort level with appropriate technologies
• Demonstrated ability to respond quickly and appropriately to crisis situations and have the ability to work variable weekend and evening hours

Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience investigating, adjudicating, and resolving allegations of sexual misconduct/sexual violence or in administering and coordinating a comprehensive program addressing Title IX compliance or comparable experience
• Experience in designing, developing, facilitating and evaluating training or educational programs focusing on sexual misconduct/sexual violence
• Knowledge of sexual harassment/sexual violence grievance procedures in a University setting
