Job Summary:

This position is a temporary assignment for the department of Biochemistry and Microbiology.

The Laboratory Technician will perform standard laboratory experiments in a C.elegans neurobiology biology lab. The technician will maintain and grow C. elegans stocks,complete routine laboratory duties (organizing, maintenance, making solutions)and assist with general laboratory techniques and basic and repetitivemolecular biology techniques. Tech will perform PCR, genotyping, transformation& purification of existing plasmid DNAs. The technician will perform standard C. elegans genetic crosses,light microscopy, molecular genetics, and behavioral experiments related toongoing lab projects in neurobiology. The technician will demonstratethe ability to culture and handle C. elegans.

Environmental Hazards:
Possible exposure to hazardous material, hot and cold, blood borne pathogens.

Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift and carry 8-10 pounds, stoop, reach, stand, walk, finger,grasp, feel, talk, hear, see, and perform repetitive motions with or withoutreasonable accommodations.

Education & Experience

Position Qualifications:

Required:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent
- At least two (2) years of college experience in courses in cell biology and microbiology
- At least one (1) year of lab experience in cell biology, microscopy, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Previous lab experience including familiarity with basic microbiological and sterile techniques
- Skills to train others in basic lab support techniques and procedures (preparation of media, dishwashing, equipment usage etc.)
- Experience with Windows OS and the ability to workindependently with a variety of computer applications

Skills, Proficiencies and Knowledge:
Successful, positive interpersonal and oral andwritten communication skills using tact, diplomacy, discretion, and flexibilitywith diverse personalities and situations. Skill to interact effectively withfaculty, academics, students, and staff including those of diverse ethnicity, culture,and foreign nationals. Willingness and ability to embrace and consistentlyuphold the principles of community for a collaborative work environment.

Preferred:
- Past C. elegans experience is a plus
