Job Description:


This position manages and coordinates the daily operations for the Center for Gender, Race, and Area Studies (CGRAS) and its affiliated programs, including Women's and Gender Studies, Africana Studies, Asian Studies, Comparative Race and Ethnic Studies, Holocaust and Genocide Studies, Latin American and Latinx Studies, and Peace and Conflict Studies. This includes overseeing daily office operations, program budgets, and supervising student workers; managing student enrollment, course offerings, and programming for CGRAS and its seven affiliated programs; and coordinating faculty-facing DEI initiatives (e.g., events planning, communication).The position will also assist with grant preparation and grant management. The Managing Coordinator position reports to the CGRAS Director.



  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the office, including the hiring, training, retaining and supervision of student workers
  • Manage student enrollment, courses, projects, and events for interdisciplinary concentrations, majors/minors:
  • Coordinate and manage projects from affiliated faculty
  • Coordinate course schedules, offerings, and attributes within a program, and across programs
  • Maintain and monitor CGRAS, WGS, and other program budgets and endowments, provide budget reports, order supplies, process invoices, and manage transactions with other University departments and services
  • Prepare and update program handbooks and advising materials for the undergraduate majors and minors and concentrators
  • Respond to student and faculty inquiries
  • Coordinate with other departments to attribute courses
  • Advise CGRAS director and steering on program development (e.g., new courses, co-curricular activities).
    • Work with faculty and Registrar's Office to create new courses using Acalog
    • Prepare the academic catalog with updated program information and course listings
  • Prepare program recruiting materials and organize recruiting opportunities
  • Maintain/update content on program web pages
  • Prepare correspondence/documents/reports
  • Manage and coordinate events planning (including faculty brown bag, information sessions, faculty talks and guest lectures, and the annual Women's History Month)
  • Prepare announcements for upcoming events and initiatives
  • Participate in Hiring Committees for job searches, as needed
  • Create and maintain databases
  • Support the Director of CGRAS/Associate Dean of faculty-facing DEI initiatives
    • Help plan events (e.g., campus outreach through announcements, flyers, etc.)
    • Manage calendar and schedule of events
    • Manage budgets associated with each initiative
  • Support the Director and Associate Dean in pursuing federal and foundation grants related to racial justice and equity in higher education. Other duties as assigned.


Requirements:


  • Bachelor's degree
  • Candidates are expected to have prior office experience and high computer literacy
  • Excellent communication, planning and organizational skills
  • The ability to interact with a diverse campus population effectively
  • The ability to prioritize multiple tasks and to problem solve and work independently
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Familiarity with Smart Buy Plus and Acalog, or the ability to quickly gain proficiency with computer software and applications
