Reader 1 assists the Admissions Committee in reading and evaluating applications for admissions to the Full-time MBA program at the Haas School of Business.

Responsibilities
  • Uses professional judgment to review complex applications for admissions to the Full-time MBA program.
    • Read and evaluate approximately 20-40 applications/week.
  • Assesses applicants for motivation, initiative, leadership potential, work / life experience, extracurricular activities, socioeconomic status, disabilities, and educational / personal hardship.
  • Evaluates transcripts and international records for eligibility.
  • Assesses academic preparedness of traditional, special-program, and international applicants.
    • Review applicants', resume and work experience, essays, letters of recommendations, and standardized test scores.
  • Using extensive knowledge of college / school / department requirements and applicant pool, assesses the applicants' overall record and experience for final admissions determination and recommendation.
    • Summarize applicants' strengths and weaknesses and provide input on applicant's candidacy in relation to the applicant pool.
  • Consults with experienced level staff or faculty when reviewing more complex applications and for training.
  • Professional Learning and Growth
    • Embraces the principle of being a "student always" by engaging in opportunities for training, workshops, seminars, continuing education pertinent to the position, or at the suggestion of the supervisor.
    • Actively contributes to a team environment that fosters and promotes a culture of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB) within the unit and at Haas.
    • Engages in ongoing education to promote diversity, equity, inclusion & belonging by completing University sponsored certifications & training sessions (Ie: MEP Workshop, Implicit Bias Certification, LinkedIn Learning workshops, and other workshops & seminars offered by the University or Haas, as they are made available) or by engaging in external seminars & resources related to DEIB.
    • Exemplifies Haas Defining Principles: students always, confidence w/o attitude, question the status quo, and beyond yourself.

Required Qualifications
  • Thorough knowledge and experience working with a diverse student population.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of University policies and procedures in order to interpret and communicate these to prospective students and the public.
  • Thorough and comprehensive knowledge of MBA programs, including curricula, admissions requirements, and financial aid programs, at colleges / universities and specifically at UC, and / or specific colleges and schools.
  • Mastery in establishing and maintaining cooperative relationships with schools, universities, community organizations, and other institutions.
  • Effective and professional communication skills both verbally and in writing.
  • Demonstrates excellent interpersonal skills in a team setting and while working independently.
  • Demonstrates attention to detail and keen analytical skills to analyze and synthesize large amounts of information.
  • Must be available to read between 20-30 hours each week during peak season.
  • Available to attend department meetings, as necessary during normal business hours.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, demonstrating a desire to promote diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging to establish and maintain positive & professional working relationships with colleagues, students and team members.
  • Exemplifies Haas Defining Principles: students always, confidence w/o attitude, question the status quo, and beyond yourself.

Education
  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Develops recruitment programs, and design effective materials.
  • Experience working in a higher education admissions program.
  • Demonstrates basic interviewing skills working with prospective students.
  • MBA or advanced degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.

Salary & Benefits

This is a non-exempt, biweekly paid position. Hourly pay is commensurate with experience up to up to $30.00.

Other Information

This is a 43% FTE, limited appointment. This position is 100% remote and will run from 9/13/2021 - 7/1/2022.

Must be able to travel, at own expense to UC Berkeley Campus to complete the fingerprinting process for the background check.

Conviction History Background

This is a designated position requiring fingerprinting and a background check due to the nature of the job responsibilities. Berkeley does hire people with conviction histories and reviews information received in the context of the job responsibilities. The University reserves the right to make employment contingent upon successful completion of the background check.
