SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE:

This position assists in the administration of the campus operating budget throughout the annual budget cycle, including the preparation of reports, developing forecasts and scenarios, analysis of financial data, and maintaining budget information and resources. The Budget Analyst will also support certain accounting functions in the Office of Business Services, as directed by the Controller and Assistant Controller.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Budget

  • Assist the Controller in coordinating the annual budget process, including but not limited to development, projections, tracking and monitoring of budgets. Retain, review, and maintain related documentation.
  • Participate in the input of internal budgets to the Jenzabar accounting system.
  • Maintain all position control records and serve as the initial point of review for all new and replacement position requests.
  • Assist in the creation and reporting of special account and capital budgets.
  • Process all budget adjustments in Jenzabar, serve as the campus resource for budget issues and inquiries.
  • Coordinate and maintain appropriate budget access in Jenzabar for Budget Supervisors. Provide training and periodic process updates to the Flagler community.
  • Serve as the main resource for the Synario budget modeling software. Develop and update budget scenarios in cooperation with the Controller and CFO, and prepare reports and presentations as requested. Complete necessary training and periodic updates for Synario and provide support for the use of Synario by the Controller and CFO.
  • Participates in the formulation of budget policies and procedures, including identifying best practices.
  • Seek and communicate ways to improve processes and use resources more efficiently.
Accounting

  • Provide support for monthly reconciliations and journal entry input in support of Senior Accountants and Assistant Controller, as assigned.
  • Coordinate budget reports and account setup for the study abroad programs (FlagSHIP and summer terms). Ensure adequate funding and accountability of funds.
  • Assigned special accounting projects as needed, in support of the Assistant Controller and Controller.
  • Prepare analysis for financial statement presentations and footnote disclosures. Provide accounting support and requested documentation during the annual external audit.
  • Performs such additional duties as may be assigned by the Controller and Assistant Controller.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

  • Bachelors degree in accounting, finance or related field
  • Four to six years relevant accounting and budget experience.
  • Knowledge of budgeting and accounting principles.
  • Proficiency with business software applications (spreadsheet development and use of complex formulae, graphics, word processing).
  • Ability to become proficient in other microcomputer applications (databases, data retrieval and reporting software).
  • Ability to integrate technology into accounting and budget management processes.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Higher education experience
  • Certified Public Accountant, active
  • Knowledge of the Synario budget modeling software
WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Sedentary work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Sedentary work involved sitting most of the time and occasionally walking and standing.
  • Climbing, walking, crouching, repetitive motions, and ability to communicate appropriately with students/colleagues.
  • Occasional evening or weekend hours possible during peak processing times.
  • Occasional travel to attend training and conferences.
