Overview

A/V Services, a division of Information Technology Services at Macalester College seeks a skilled Audio/Visual Technician to join our event services team. This position provides outstanding service to campus event planners and collaboratively plans, coordinates, sets up, operates, supports, records, and strikes audio/visual systems including traditional event A/V systems and digital webinar/meeting tools. 

 

This role is non-exempt and requires some occasional weekend and evening work. 

 

About the A/V Services Team: 

The A/V Services team is evolving to provide more robust support for campus A/V needs. This newly-formed team currently includes the A/V Manager, an A/V Technician focused on classroom and meeting room technology, and this open A/V Technician position focused on event support and audio/video production. The team is also building a new student employee program to expand and improve their ability to support events across campus. The A/V Technician (events) position will have an opportunity to help build and shape the A/V Services area for campus. Peak times for A/V services include orientation, commencement, and reunion.

Responsibilities
  • Provides campus event set-up, operation, and logistical support for audiovisual systems in an academic and professional environment. Integrates systems and services with contractors and external vendors. Sets up and operates a variety of audiovisual equipment including, but not limited to, digital meeting/webinar tools, cameras, PA speakers, microphones, mixers, projectors, laptops, switchers, digital recording devices, etc. Troubleshoots equipment as needed before and during events. After events, strikes gear and ensures orderly storage of equipment, and provides documentation for any problems that arise during the event. 
  • Captures and edits, as necessary, professional-quality digital audio and video recordings of events according to event planner requirements.
  • Plans and consults with event planners for audio/visual coordination and planning, establishing and communicating shared requirements. Guides what is possible in an event space and when to bring in contract partners to achieve event requirements, and coordinates with external service partners and contractors. 
  • Assists the A/V Manager with training and supervision of A/V Services student employees.
  • Provides emergency and backup assistance to learning and meeting space A/V support. Provides general help desk support when needed.
  • Provides training for campus community members as needed including presentations, written documentation, and video demonstrations. 
  • Provides friendly and professional customer service to clients. Maintains and cultivates positive relationships with campus event partners, especially Campus Operations, Facilities Services, and Special Events.
  • Evaluates A/V installed and mobile A/V inventory maintains equipment as needed, and makes recommendations to update or expand available equipment to ensure continued successful operation and event support. 
  • Engages in and promotes Macalester’s culture of diversity and inclusion, encompassing individuals of any heritage, identity, status, or orientation.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or G.E.D.
  • 3 years of experience in a similar role
  • Demonstrated proficiency and experience with high-quality event camera operation and video editing
  • Proficiency and experience with soundboard operation and micing
  • Proficiency and experience with built-in projection, sound, and control systems
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with colleagues and stakeholders, and a commitment to providing excellent customer service. 
  • Technical confidence and troubleshooting skills
  • Experience working with individuals from a variety of cultures and identities, including the ability to navigate cultural differences.
  • Demonstrated commitment to equity, inclusion, and diversity.
  • Experience supervising student employees or volunteers is desirable. 

 

Physical Requirements: 

Due to the nature of this position, candidates must be able to hear, use close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less), kneel, crouch, reach, sit and occasionally climb. 

 

Compensation & Benefits: 

The hourly rate for this position is between $23.42-$27.69/hr (DOE) and is eligible for every employee benefit at Macalester.
