Job SummaryUnder the direction of an Assistant Director, this live-in position oversees the residential education of 275-675 students and management of l-3 residence halls. Duties include educational programming, management tasks, teaching, staff supervision and training, advising, and policy enforcement. Uses student development theory as a basis for the development of living environments that are educationally and developmentally enhancing for all students.

Essential Functions
  • Supervises and trains graduate and undergraduate staff assigned to the hall.
  • Sustains educational, social, cultural and diversity-related programs.
  • Provides counseling, advising and referral services to students.
  • Oversees administrative tasks related to such issues as housing assignments, inventory, damage, billing, keys, fire safety, building security; works collaboratively with maintenance and operations on matters relating to building maintenance.
  • Applies student judicial procedures as a pre-hearing administrator; supervises staff in the enforcement of the Code of Student Conduct.
  • Advises student groups and works particularly closely with student governance groups.
  • Assists in departmental administration.
  • As scheduled, provides night and weekend on-call/call-back coverage as part of Residence Education Emergency coverage system.
  • May serve on departmental committee or task force.
  • Understands, is committed to, and implements affirmative action and non-discrimination regulations, policies and principles.

  • Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensure)
  • Bachelor’s Degree required. Preferred fields are Student Development, Higher Education, or Counseling plus one academic year post-baccalaureate experience as a live in staff member to include crisis intervention and work with diverse student populations required at the time of hire or Master’s degree in a related field and some related experience required at the time of hire.
  • Demonstrated commitment and ability to create inclusive communities that are sensitive to diverse populations.
  • This is a term-limited professional position from approximately August 2, 2021 through May 21, 2022, which requires some evening and weekend work, plus on-call/call-back duty.

  • Under general supervision, functions independently within the scope of Residence Education and University policy and goals, referring to supervisor issues which have been so designated.
  • SUPERVISION EXERCISED: Directly supervises student staff (approximately l6).
