FOUNDING DEAN, COLLEGE OF HEALTH SCIENCES


The Alvernia University community and Senior Vice President and Provost Glynis Fitzgerald seeks an innovative, visionary, collaborative, enthusiastic, and student-centered leader as the founding Dean of the College of Health Sciences. The College includes all of the existing academic departments and programs devoted to healthcare and health science and serves a large portion of the undergraduate and graduate students at the institution.

Alvernia University, a private Franciscan institution rooted in the tradition of Catholic higher education and located in Reading, Pennsylvania, combines a liberal arts foundation with a broad range of academic and professional programs. The Dean will be a visible leader on campus and in the greater Reading community, modeling Alvernia's Franciscan core values of contemplation, collegiality, humility, service, and peacemaking. The Franciscan tradition informs decisions and builds community through service, reflection, and a commitment to social transformation.

As the Academic and Administrative officer for the College, the Dean is a member of the Senior Vice President and Provost's Leadership Team and reports directly to the Senior Vice President and Provost. The Dean is responsible for the excellence of the academic programs in Athletic Training, Healthcare Science, Nursing, Occupational Therapy, and Physical Therapy. The Dean oversees decisions pertaining to faculty recruitment and support, program accreditation, research/scholarship, budget, and resource allocations. The Dean serves as the College's strongest advocate for students, faculty, staff, and programs and serves as a strong voice for interprofessional education. The successful candidate will listen, encourage, empower, and influence to promote change, shape outcomes and systematically position the College for success.
