JOB SUMMARY: This position provides medical emergency services to Middle Georgia State University and visiting team student­ athletes at home intercollegiate and club contests.

MAJOR DUTIES:
•Monitors and evaluates student-athletes at selected home sporting events; assesses
injuries and delivers appropriate care.
• Serve as first responder as necessary.
• Serves as liaison for the university's athletic trainer.
• Performs related duties.

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION:
• Knowledge of first aid and CPR.
• Skill in the provision of emergency medical services during sporting events.
• Skill in oral and written communication.

SUPERVISORY CONTROLS: The Head Athletic Trainer assigns work in terms of somewhat general instructions. The supervisor reviews any emergency situation that required services for compliance with instructions and established procedures, accuracy, and the nature and propriety of the final results.

GUIDELINES: Guidelines related state regulations, and university and department policies and procedures. These guidelines require judgment, selection and interpretation in application.

COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK: The purpose of this position is to provide emergency medical services and support to student-athletes during and after athletic competitions as necessary. Success in this position ensures the health and fitness of student-athletes.

CONTACTS:
• Contacts are typically with the university athletic trainer, athletic staff, other college personnel, coaches, student-athletes, other students, physicians, and members of the general public.
• Contacts are typically to provide services, to give or exchange information, or to resolve problems.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT:
•The work is typically performed while intermittently standing, stooping or walking.
• The work is typically performed in an athletics facility, often outdoors, occasionally in cold or inclement
weather. The employee may be exposed to contagious or infectious diseases, or irritating chemicals. The work requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, gloves, etc.

SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY: There are no supervisory responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS:
•Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of first aid, CPR and/or
emergency medical technician certification.
• Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position

COMPENSATION CLASSIFICATION:

  • This position is part-time
