Job Details
Princeton University
One or more postdoctoral research associate or more senior research positions are available at Princeton University in the Andlinger Center for Energy and the Environment. Associates will join the Zero-carbon Energy systems Research and Optimization Laboratory (ZERO Lab) run by assistant professor Jesse Jenkins (Andlinger Center and Dept. of Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering). Researchers will focus on macro-energy systems modeling, low-carbon energy transitions and policy analysis, and/or techno-economic assessment of novel low-carbon energy technologies and their role in a decarbonized energy sector. Applicants will have experience in optimization methods and applied energy system modeling, particularly macro-scale electricity systems; familiarity with algebraic modeling languages used for linear and mixed integer programming (e.g. Julia/JuMP, Python/Pyomo, AMPL, GAMS); and comfort working in a multidisciplinary and collaborative research environment. Associates in this role will help develop and improve optimization-based macro-energy systems models and related decision support methods and apply these methods to (1) explore pathways to net-zero emissions energy systems and (2) evaluate cost and performance goals and optimize the design of emerging low-carbon energy technologies. Individuals with expertise in energy systems and a PhD in relevant fields (including operations research, energy resources, mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, electrical engineering, systems engineering, and computer science) are encouraged to apply. All candidates must have strong, demonstrated research ability, excellent English written and spoken communication skills. We are interested in receiving applications from members of groups that historically have been underrepresented in science and engineering. The appointment will be for one year, with annual renewal contingent on performance and funding (expected total term: 2-3 years). Successful candidates may start as early as September 1, 2021. Applicants must apply online at https://www.princeton.edu/acad-positions/position/21041 and submit a CV, cover letter, and contact information for three references. This position is subject to the University's background check policy. Princeton University is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer and all qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to age, race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, national origin, disability status, protected veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law.
