Overview and Responsibilities

This Workforce Solutions and Continuing Education Trainer position collaborates with businesses and organizations throughout CVTC’s 11-county district to create and administer customized training and professional development seminars and series for employees in areas of leadership, organizational development, and performance management. This position also administers technical assistance (consulting) projects for business and industry, which may include the development of coaching programs, job description development, performance management systems, strategic planning, succession planning, organizational development, and other related services. 

 

The ideal candidate for this role is an individual with an entrepreneurial mindset as their work is defined every day with feedback and opportunities to partner internally and externally. This position guides and develops a constantly evolving, industry driven department of CVTC which responds to and anticipates training needs of the employer community. The trainer will be involved in learning, designing, developing, and facilitating new training avenues; will work closely building employer customer relationships; and is at the pulse of new trends as a subject matter expert in their field. Responsibilities:

  • Plan for and instruct workforce offerings covering the areas of leadership, organizational development, and performance management through interactive and applied learning techniques. Instruction of diversity, equity, and inclusion offers are desired.  
  • Assess needs of employer organizations.
  • Design and implement relevant and progressive curriculum.
  • Deliver high-quality instruction through the planning and implementation of effective learning strategies and environments.
  • Develop, revise,and implement training packages (curriculum). 
  • Deliver instruction using up-to-date technology.
  • Facilitate and assess participant learning.
  • Manage the classroom or learning site effectively.
  • Maintain labs and equipment when appropriate.
  • Assist with recruitment of employer customers.
  • Assist with registration, attendance,and student evaluation processes for customized training and professional development seminars. 
  • Develop and implement course/program evaluation and continuous improvement. 
  • Develop flexible instructional delivery systems, including on-line   
  • Communicate and maintain positive relations with internal and external CVTC community.
  • Manage and communicate time, scheduling and processes effectively using up-to-date technology.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues and internal/external customers.
  • Pursue on-going professional development including any additional certifications related to business needs. 
  • Demonstrate commitment to service excellence standards.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Extensive knowledge of and ability to conduct training in leadership areas including, but not limited to, StrengthsFinder, DiSC, Crucial Conversations, coaching, emotional intelligence, implementing internal organizational change, creating a positive organizational culture, communications, mentoring, conflict resolution, hiring employees, evaluating employees, writing job descriptions, employee performance management, initiating disciplinary action in an organization, wage and benefit cost analysis and various other leadership, organizational development and performance management related subjects as requested by regional employers. 
  • Ability to engage with a diverse target audience and relate to a vast array of experiences from entry-level to C-suite professionals. 
  • Proven ability to plan, organize, instruct,and facilitate quality educational courses in leadership, organizational development, and performance management.
  • Strong time management and communication skills with both internal and external customers and partners. 
  • Ability to utilize technology which supports learning and teaching.
  • Ability to work with training participants in both one on one and group instruction.
  • Ability to model integrity through self-awareness, personal accountability, ethical behavior, quality standards, and sustainable practices.
  • Ability to think critically by applying problem solving practices, acquiring relevant information, using technology and other resources appropriately, and evaluating alternatives.
  • Ability to communicate effectively by speaking and writing clearly, concisely, and professionally; practicing active listening; reading critically and adapting communication for audience.
  • Ability to value diversity by recognizing personal biases, adapting to culturally diverse situations, and demonstrating a commitment to equity, inclusion, and respectful interactions with persons of diverse ethnic, cultural, social-economic, or educational backgrounds.
  • Intermediate knowledge of and skills with technology including software programs for communication, data collection, and decision making including, but not limited to, Microsoft Office Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Ability to maintain a flexible schedule, including availability for evening, weekend, or online engagements, as appropriate.
  • Ability to travel (i.e., access to reliable transportation) to various campuses, businesses, organizations, and other sites as needed to fulfill the responsibilities of the position. 
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Leadership, Organizational Development, Training and Development, Business, Human Resources, or related field, master’s degree preferred. 
  • Minimum of 3 years (6,000 hours) of occupational experience in supervisory role, including experience with organizational, leadership, and team development, of which at least 1 year (2,000 hours) shall be within 5 years prior to date of hire. One year (2,000 hours) of recent related occupational experience may be waived if the applicant has at least 2 years of post−secondary teaching experience in the appropriate occupational field within 5 years prior to date of hire.
  • This position may include synchronous and asynchronous online instruction and requires expertise in integrating technology.
  • Prior teaching or training experience preferred.
  • Expertise to provide training in diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) preferred. 
  • The ideal candidate will have certifications and/or experience in one or more of the following areas:StrengthsFinder, DiSC, Crucial Conversations, coaching, emotional intelligence, implementing internal organizational change, creating a positive organizational culture, communications, mentoring, conflict resolution, hiring employees, evaluating employees, writing job descriptions, employee performance management, initiating disciplinary action in an organization, wage and benefit cost analysis.
  • Other certifications of consideration include generational differences, diversity, project management, leadership/employee assessment tools, human resource certifications (PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP), succession planning and customer service.

Location and Campuses

Chippewa Valley Technical College (CVTC) is part of the Wisconsin Technical College System (WTCS) and serves an eleven-county area in west central Wisconsin. The largest campus is located in Eau Claire and includes a Business Education Center and Health Education Center, plus a Manufacturing Education Center at the Gateway Campus and an Emergency Service Education Center and Energy Education Center at the West Campus. CVTC has regional centers in Chippewa Falls, Menomonie, Neillsville, and River Falls. The College is one of 16 WTCS colleges located throughout the state.

Student Profile

Student enrollment exceeds 8,000 credit students per year, plus over 9,000 non-credit students, with full-time equivalents of over 4,000. The median age of credit students is 24. Approximately 68% of students receive financial aid and 44% are Pell Grant students.

Programs and Placement

CVTC offers 110 programs, 35 certificates, and customized training to an average of 140 businesses annually. CVTC has an outstanding placement rate, 95% of graduates are employed within six months of graduation, with 87% in a related field. CVTC has nationally recognized faculty and state-of-the-art facilities and equipment. Business and industry leaders serve on advisory committees and help CVTC match its curriculum to the needs of today's workplace. Courses are offered at numerous locations in traditional classroom settings, as well as online and in a variety of blended and hybrid formats.
