Job Summary

Work on a collaborative USGS funded project examining the fate of silver nanoparticles in filter feeding zooplankton. The postdoctoral researcher will have the opportunity to work with researchers at USGS in Menlo Park, CA, the Center for Nanoscience and Risk at University of South Carolina, and the Picker Engineering Program at Smith College in Northampton, MA.

The fellow is also expected to take appropriate actions to support a diverse workforce and participate in the College's efforts to create a respectful, inclusive, and welcoming work environment.

Essential Functions

Conduct kinetic uptake experiments with complex matrices containing nanoparticles

Mentor undergraduate researchers

Prepare and disseminate results through publications, presentations, and conference attendance

Assist with grant management

Assist with potential preparation of additional grant proposals

Minimum Qualifications (knowledge, skills, education, experience, certifications, licenses)

PhD in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Chemistry or a related

field

Experience working with individuals from diverse backgrounds.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience working with metal-based nanoparticles, metals in aquatic systems and/or nanoplastics. Experience with ICP-MS and other analytical instrumentation.

Skills

Excellent written and oral communication. Ability to work both independently and collaboratively. Mentoring experience. Desire to be a member of an interdisciplinary team and conduct research at a US scientific government agency and women’s liberal arts college.
