Summary

The University Privacy & Data Compliance Officer for Tulane University will lead all ongoing activities related to the development, implementation and maintenance of the organization’s privacy & data compliance policies and practices in accordance with federal and state laws, and other regulatory compliance. The incumbent is responsible for managing overall development and coordinating implementation of the institution’s privacy and data protection strategy and compliance plans in collaboration with the University’s Security Officer. They will lead Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), & Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) and other data privacy and compliance requirements and assist with FERPA policy development and compliance. The University Privacy & Data Compliance Officer will ensure that all of Tulane's data is protected, and that our work complies with data protection legislation while improving our management of sensitive information, carry out regular internal security audits, and act as the main point of contact between the Tulane user community and the data owners.

Required Qualifications

• J.D. degree from an accredited law school or master’s degree in healthcare administration or closely related field.
• Five years of directly related healthcare compliance administration experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP) certification (CIPP, CIPM, etc.) or other privacy-related certification a plus.
• Experience in academic medical center.
