Job Description:


POSITION: Part Time Math Instructor/Tutor (Accounting & QuickBooks): Center for Adult Education (CAE); Remote/virtual until the college opens class scheduling at the Lawrence Campus; approximately 4.5 to 5 hours per week; Grant funded, MCCC unit professional position;


Summary: Seeking part-time Accounting and QuickBooks Math Instructor for Mondays/Wednesdays 12:30-2:30pm via ZOOM. The Accounting and QuickBooks Math teacher promotes a student-centered, cooperative learning environment that integrates current adult learning theory, the CCRSAE, as well as basic math level curriculum that includes all basic math concepts that pertain to the accounting environment.


RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Teach two sessions of two hours class each/week (on-line or in person, as conditions allow) with allotted prep time.
  • Create and follow a syllabus based on Northern Essex Community College's modular math curriculum that incorporates accounting contextualization.
  • Collaborate with peers in order to meet the needs of students.
  • Participate in monthly program planning/common planning activities and maintain communication with program coordinator and educational and career advisor.
  • Provide a substitute with students' assignments and testing needs for an unplanned absence.
  • Develop appropriate materials/methods that encourage student achievement and cooperative learning.
  • Share student goals with educational and career advisor/coordinator and refer students as needed.
  • Monitor and record student attendance; both nightly and monthly and provide follow-up on absences and report them to the coordinator and educational and career advisor.
  • Prepare mid-semester and end semester progress reports.
  • Attend the SABES Foundation for New Staff: Overview of the ABE Field.
  • Attend at least 12 hours of professional development activities per year, pre-service and other required program development meetings.
  • Assist with testing and recruitment activities.
  • Adhere to staff policies and procedures listed in staff handbook.
  • Obtain an NECC email account and check regularly for program communication.
  • Other duties relevant to the program, as assigned by the coordinator.


Requirements:


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Possess a bachelor's degree with a minimum of 3 years' experience teaching Basic Math
  • Experience teaching adult learners in relevant subject areas
  • Sensitivity to needs of adult learners
  • Sense of humor; scheduling flexibility
  • Ability to work closely as part of an educational team
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office, Internet, email
  • Excellent communication skills

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:


  • MA preferred
  • Familiarity with Google Classroom
  • Bilingual English and Spanish
  • Experience working with and supporting a culturally diverse, urban population

SALARY:


  • $30.03/hour
