The DU History Department offers history courses to undergraduate students in a variety of different geographical areas and periods, taught by our twelve faculty members. Our classes are writing and reading intensive with rigorous in-class discussions, and opportunities to participate in hands-on historical research, service-learning projects, and internships. Faculty and students appreciate the small class sizes and close relationships they develop. All of our 80-100 history majors are required to engage in a senior capstone project, a 25-30 page paper based on primary source research and integration of secondary source materials. This rigorous endeavor provides students with the opportunity to learn about, and participate in, a focused area of history. The History Department at the University of Denver invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track appointment in the history of the Black Diaspora in the Americas (1600-1800). The appointment for this position is intended to begin in September 2022. We are particularly interested in scholars whose research is engaged with the early Atlantic world. Although our department allows faculty to create course rosters focused on their teaching interests, we hope to attract applicants who are excited to teach courses in early North American history. We are also interested in qualified candidates who can contribute to diversity, equity and inclusion through their teaching, research, and service. This includes candidates from underrepresented groups, those who have experience working with diverse student populations, and those with experience and versatility in inclusive pedagogy.
The successful candidate will teach a range of introductory- and upper-level courses to history majors and the undergraduate population at DU. The successful candidate will also guide undergraduate theses on a broad variety of topics related to the candidates field of expertise.
- ABD, with a Ph.D. in History, Africana Studies, American Studies, or African American Studies, or other relevant discipline required by Summer 2022.
- University teaching experience.

The salary grade for the position is UC.
The salary range for this position is $65,000-$80,000.
