Description of Position

The HR Generalist (HRG) builds relationships with leadership and employees in assigned departments in an effort to provide proactive HR support for the achievement of department and organizational goals. The HRG provides professional human resources advice and guidance to assigned department personnel in the areas of talent acquisition, benefits and compensation, performance management and employee relations. Supports teamwork within the HR department by working closely with department leaders and colleagues on projects within the HRG’s expertise and interest.

The HRG position may include telework in combination with work based on the Prescott campus.

This is a career track position with position placement based upon education, relevant job experience and certification(s). Additional salary movement is available for the completion of academic degrees and/or HR Certifications.

  • Work with hiring managers in proactively reviewing recruiting and staffing needs, assist with preparation of position requests, and provide guidance in recruitment activities including networking, advertising, interviewing and talent acquisition.
  • Collaborate with the HR team to develop effective recruitment strategies and ensure applicant tracking and selection processes are efficient, legally compliant, relevant and in accordance with all policies and procedures.
  • Build relationships with managers and supervisors of assigned departments to assist with employee relations advising, counseling and ongoing development of the workforce.
  • Respond to human resources inquiries and provide personnel policy and procedure guidance to managers and employees.
  • Administer FMLA, ADA and Worker’s Compensation programs and advises management on internal policies and regulations to ensure compliance.
  • Create and process internal forms in the HRIS and benefits systems, including new hires, status updates and job changes, and ensure compliance with document retention guidelines.
  • Assist in the administration of the employee benefit programs by answering questions and presenting plan information.
  • Collaborate with the HR Team to prepare and present new hire and benefit orientations.
  • Partner with HR Senior staff in managing employee relation's issues and ensure communication, documentation and appropriate actions support the policies and practices of the organization.
  • Document HR processes and procedures to support efficient and consistent actions, development of HR Team knowledge and creation of redundancies during employee absences.
  • Conduct research and analyze data on assigned projects, including the annual compensation study, policy review and HR initiatives.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

  • Minimum Expectations & Requirements

    This is a career track position, potentially starting as an HR Generalist and progressing to HR Business Partner and Senior Business Partner. Initial placement is based upon minimum requirements shown below.

    Grade 11 – Human Resources Generalist
    Hiring Range: $41,557 - $54,487

    MINIMUM EXPECTATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:

  • Associates Degree or certificate in Business, Human Resources, or related field and a minimum of 2 years of professional Human Resources experience OR the equivalent combination of education, training and experience .
  • Active SHRM or HRCI certification or the ability to obtain a certification within 1 year.
  • Working knowledge of recruiting/onboarding strategies.
  • Proven success in building a recruiting/talent pipeline and utilization of various recruiting processes to enhance an organization's recruiting efforts, including hard-to-fill positions.
  • Excellent interpersonal and analytical skills, with strong verbal & written communication abilities.
  • Ability to adapt to changing and competing priorities.

  • Grade 14 – Human Resources Business Partner
    Hiring Range: $53,913 - $69,981

    MINIMUM EXPECTATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:
  • Associates Degree or certificate in Business, Human Resources, or related field and a minimum of 3 years of professional Human Resources experience OR the equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Active SHRM or HRCI certification.
  • Working knowledge of recruiting/onboarding strategies.
  • Proven success in building a recruiting/talent pipeline and utilization of various recruiting processes to enhance an organization's recruiting efforts, including hard-to-fill positions.
  • Excellent interpersonal and analytical skills, with strong verbal & written communication abilities.
  • Ability to adapt to changing and competing priorities.
  • Knowledge of local, state and federal employment laws; experience with employee relations matters and knowledge of corrective action processes.

  • Grade 16 – Human Resources Business Partner, Senior
    Hiring Range: $63,606 - $82,688

    MINIMUM EXPECTATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Human Resources, or related field.
  • Active SHRM or HRCI certification.
  • A minimum of 4 years of experience as an HR generalist, with knowledge and experience in all aspects of the HR function, including recruiting, training, compensation, benefits and employee policies and procedures (required).
  • Working knowledge of recruiting/onboarding.
  • Proven success in building a recruiting/talent pipeline and utilization of various recruiting processes to enhance an organization's recruiting efforts.
  • Excellent interpersonal and analytical skills, with strong verbal & written communication abilities
  • Ability to adapt to changing and competing priorities.
  • Previous experience or knowledge of recruiting for hard-to-fill positions.
  • Knowledge of local, state and federal employment laws; experience with employee relations matters; and knowledge of corrective action process.



  • Preferred Skills & Abilities

  • Master's Degree in Business, Human Resources Management, or related field.
  • Active SHRM or HRCI certification
  • Experience working in higher education.
  • Previous experience as an HR generalist, with knowledge and experience in all aspects of the HR function, including recruiting training, compensation, benefits, and employee policies and procedures.
  • Essential Functions

    Employee is frequently required to use hands to finger. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus.
