The Public Relations Specialist is a highly creative, innovative and visual individual responsible for internal and external communications and events for Rhodes State College.
Duties & Responsibilities
This position works closely with the College’s Director of Marketing and College Relations to develop and deliver integrated marketing and communications campaigns that utilize associated college publications, website content, news releases, and events to enhance Rhodes State’s reputation and to achieve enrollment goals. The position serves as a cross-departmental liaison and support for campus-wide projects. The PR Specialist is responsible for marketing and advertising messages that help the College connect with enrollment demographics, whether through traditional publications, traditional media, or social media. In addition, this position will plan, develop, and execute news, content, and technology-based strategies that enhance Rhodes State’s interaction with external communities building the College’s reputation in the local, regional, and national press.This position supports the creative work for all institutional publications including but not limited to the course catalog, the strategic plan, electronic viewbook, and the College’s Annual Report.Write, edit, proofread, and organize a wide range of written content to ensure that it affirms the established brand, voice/tone, and editorial standards.Work with the College’s Creative & Digital Media Specialist to provide customer support for incoming requests for content updates and site improvements. Leverage the college’s various communication platforms, including its social media assets, to post visuals that tell the Rhodes State story.Keep abreast of new and emerging media (traditional, social, and multi-media), publications, and web technologies.Assist to coordinate/plan College events connected to the Office of the President and other departments with events/public activities.Act as a liaison to the College, when necessary, when outside professional, service, social, and community organizations have events on campus.Participate in campus projects or on committees at the College that promote shared governance.Perform other similar duties as required.
Experience, Skills & Abilities
Required: Must have excellent communication skills, including experience developing and promoting content for the web, social media, traditional news media, and print publications. Must have analytical and organizational skills; advanced computer skills with demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Suite preferred.Must possess strong organizational and interpersonal skills with the ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, faculty, staff, administrators, and members of the general community and news media. Must have a high degree of integrity; ability to problem solve, be a team player, think critically, be collaborative, and energetic, appreciate detail and accuracy.Must have the ability to juggle multiple requests and projects simultaneously, while working in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment; have the ability to develop, create, stage, and produce professional quality media and evaluate production effectiveness in meeting objectives. Preferred:
- Knowledge and experience working in Google Analytics.
Education & Certifications
Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of training and work experience required.
