General Summary

Oversee the operation of all athletic facilities, including the Convocation Center, as well as direct and supervise game day operations for all home athletics events. Serve as the primary contact for all capital projects and improvements to the athletic facilities.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Oversee the day-to-day operation of all athletic facilities, including the Convocation Center, which includes maintenance, scheduling and custodial services.

Maintain a shared facility calendar to ensure that athletic facilities are properly scheduled for internal and external events.

Oversee the management and coordination of all outside rental groups, concerts and special events.

Work closely with EMU Athletics External Affairs units to maximize incremental revenue growth through outside rentals, concerts and special events.

Manage and/or collaborate on the marketing and promotion of events to maximize participation and, where appropriate, the profitability of events.

Manage and staff the game day operations for all varsity sports and develop a comprehensive plan for running each game day in a professional manner at all times.

Communicate with coaching staff and sport administrators on the expectations relating to EMU Athletic events. Support the efforts of athletics staff so that our facilities are displayed in a first-class manner.

Oversee all security needs for events and facilities, working collaboratively with the EMU Department of Public Safety, ParkEMU and various third party vendors. Ensure that vendor and other related contracts are appropriately administered.

Direct the planning, development, administration and oversight of assigned budgets.

Monitor all expenditures and ensures compliance to appropriate budget constraints.

Develop a strategic deferred maintenance program for EMU facilities and equipment.

Oversee requests for maintenance and repairs for all facilities and serve as the liaison between EMU Physical Plant and Department of Athletics.

Serve as event director for all MAC and NCAA events as assigned.

Coordinate key and access control and manage the work order process for all athletic facilities.

Work closely with the Senior Associate AD/SWA on human resources and personnel issues within the facilities and operations areas.

Adhere to any and all NCAA, Mid-American Conference and Eastern Michigan University policies, rules, regulations and operational procedures.

Provide leadership and supervision to assigned staff and enforce University policies and procedures.

Qualifications

A Bachelor’s Degree is required. A Master’s or terminal degree is desirable.

At least three years of experience in the operational management of facilities that host medium to large scale events including athletic events, arts events (e.g. concerts), or other similar scale events.

Demonstrated, successful managerial experience in collegiate athletics is preferred.

Prior experience managing represented (union) staff is strongly preferred.

Past experience managing vendor relationships is strongly preferred.

Must have the ability to work collaboratively across multiple functional areas in a manner that is inclusive of stakeholders with different perspectives.

Experience developing and managing budgets is required.

Strong written and verbal communication skills are required.
