Summary of Duties:

The position performs the first level of professional contract administration work with responsibility in the administration of routine contracts, interdepartmental agreements, leases and letters of understanding to provide or obtain services or goods for the department following state, federal, University, Pac-12 and NCAA guidelines. Additionally, this position will initiate competitive bids, obtains signatures of parties to agreements or signatures of authorized agents, develop and maintain a list of authorized contract signatories and coordinate termination of agreements and existing contracts. Individual will work under general supervision and will exercise independent judgment and decision-making authority and must be able to interpret and apply complicated rules and regulations. This position independently advises units, coaches, staff, and administrators regarding applicable policies and procedures and recommends alternative efficient/effective courses of action. This position collaborates with internal and external constituencies and establishes and maintains positive and productive working relationships.


Required Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree involving major study in business administration, public administration, business law, commerce, economics, mathematics, statistics, or closely allied field OR additional qualifying experience may be substituted, year for year, for the required education. AND One year of experience in negotiating, administering, or terminating contracts, contract property management, contract cost or price analysis, or contract compliance administration. A Master’s degree in one of the above academic disciplines may be substituted for the required experience. A law degree from an accredited college or university approved by the Washington State Bar Association may be substituted for the required experience and education.

  • Additional qualifying experience may be substituted, year for year, for the education.

  • A Master’s degree in one of the above academic disciplines may be substituted for the experience.

  • Strong computer capabilities and familiarity with mainframe systems.

  • Demonstrated ability to function in a high-stress, fast-paced environment.

  • Demonstrated communication and interpersonal relationship skills, including the ability to provide information to diverse groups of people.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge and understanding of applicable rules and regulations, including State of Washington, Washington State University, Athletic Department, NCAA, and Pac-12 Conference rules and regulations.

  • Demonstrated work experience that requires strong time management, fiscal accountability and organizational skills.

  • Demonstrated work experience that requires an expertise with business practices and internal controls.

  • Possess excellent report writing skills and have the ability to initiate and complete projects with specific deadlines.

  • Demonstrated ability and knowledge of Workday

Associate Vice Provost for Inclusive Excellence Recently Announced

Dr. Lisa Guerrero was recently named associate vice provost for inclusive excellence. Guerrero has been an active advocate for diversity and inclusion since joining the WSU faculty in 2004. She is currently a professor of Comparative Ethnic Studies in WSU’s School of Languages, Cultures, and Race. She will maintain her faculty position, while serving as associate vice provost in a half-time appointment.

Dr. Guerrero will provide leadership to academic affairs in implementing WSU’s commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion. She will help to identify and implement best practices and evidence-based approaches in faculty hiring, tenure and promotion, research support, faculty retention, teaching and mentoring, and curriculum planning. One of her first areas of responsibility will be to oversee the Racism and Social Inequality in the Americas faculty cluster hire program for Fall 2021.
