Nature of Work:

The Claw Lab at the University of Colorado seeks a full-time Postdoctoral Fellow to work in the Division of Biomedical Informatics & Personalized Medicine and the Colorado Center for Personalized Medicine at the Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora, CO. In our lab, we are interested in the role of the pharmacogenetic variation (e.g., CYP450 variation) related to health and disease and the ethical, legal, and social implications of genomic research in historically marginalized populations. Pharmacogenomics is a field of research that studies how a person’s genes affect how they responds to medications and is at the core of personalized medicine. The overall goal of this position is to identify novel genetic and epigenetic influences on nicotine metabolism (nicotine metabolite ratio, or NMR) using a genome-wide approach, and to examine the associations to tobacco-related disease and death in underrepresented populations. The postdoctoral position will be responsible for analyzing project data, creating presentations and manuscripts for publication, assist in developing proposals for funding and participate in all lab related activities. This position will not be responsible for supervising lab staff.

Examples of Work Performed:

The duties and responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:

  • Responsible for analytical aspects of the research proposed by the Claw lab, including data cleaning and association testing, and development of new computational pipelines.
  • Engage in GWAS/EWAS array and whole genome sequencing data analysis using bash scripting and parallel programming in a High Performance Computing (HPC)/cluster Unix/Linux environment.
  • Population genetics analysis (e.g., inference and analysis of global and local population substructure)
  • Analysis of high throughput multi-omic data.
  • Perform research related to the measurement of nicotine metabolites and other small molecules using liquid chromatography with tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS-MS).
  • Interpret data and communicate experimental results and findings to colleagues in the laboratory, the division, and campus in verbal (presentations) and written (abstracts, manuscripts) forms.
  • Biospecimen handling and organization of many samples from a large cohort.
  • Analyze experimental results, prepare figures and tables for publication, grant applications, and progress reports
  • Maintaining communication with various core facilities and lab members for coordinating experiments/data generation.
  • Maintain detailed and accurate records of experimental findings.
  • Assist with development of laboratory protocols.
  • General laboratory duties as assigned.
Skills:

Must be knowledgeable in samples inventory (receiving and data entry), and some experience with nucleic acid extractions and fluid handling. The candidate will perform established laboratory assays with the initial supervision of senior personnel until capable of performing those assays independently.

Salary and Benefits:

Current NIH salary levels for 0-3 years of experience: $53,760 - $56,712. The above salary range represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the rate at the time of posting.

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.
