Job Summary

Student Services Professionals are responsible for providing a wide variety of professional services and activities ranging from preadmission to the university through post graduation. The purpose of these services and activities is to assist students in making successful progress toward their degree objectives; to provide learning experiences, which supplement those in the classroom; and to assist and encourage students to utilize effectively the knowledge, skills and abilities learned during their university careers.

Such services and activities may include providing information and guidance to students; assisting students to think through problems and select suitable solutions and courses of action; evaluating student needs and authorizing services; coordinating and administering programs, events, and projects; facilitating student involvement in campus life; advocating the needs of individual students and groups of students to university administrators, faculty and staff; and providing support and assistance to students facing a variety of personal as well as institutional problems, questions and challenges.

In addition, Student Services Professionals may serve as “working supervisors” or lead persons.

Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community. Ability to follow all university policies, procedures, and guidelines including but not limited to safety, civility, information security, and non-discrimination policies and procedures. Ability to contribute to a positive university experience for each and every student, and assist in achieving the university's commitment to a "vision of excellence."

Time Base

This is a temporary and/or hourly intermittent Pool and is intended for qualified applicants to be called upon for temporary appointments, in any department on campus, on an as-needed basis. Applications are being accepted to fill short-term temporary (e.g. while staff is away from office on training, vacation, sick leave, etc.) Temporary appointments may be cancelled at any time. Successful candidates may be appointed for a few days and up to one (1) year depending on the assignment.

Education and Experience

Student Services Professional Series

  • SSP IA - Equivalent to a bachelor's degree in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration, or a job-related field.
  • SSP IB - Equivalent to a bachelor's degree in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration, or a job-related field and one year of directly related experience.
  • SSP II - Equivalent to a bachelor's degree in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration, or a job-related field and two years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas required.
  • SSP III - Equivalent to a bachelor's degree with upper or graduate coursework in counseling and guidance, human relations, or related fields and three years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas required.
  • SSP IV - Equivalent to a bachelor's degree with upper or graduate coursework in counseling and guidance, human relations, or related fields and four years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas required.
Compensation

Salary range for the following levels:

SSP IA: $3,513 - $4,298/month.

SSP IB: $3,796 - $5,369/month.

SSP II: $4,304 - $6,120/month.

SSP III: $4,691 - $6,683/month.

SSP IV: $5,351 - $7,633/month.

Additional Information

The person holding this position is considered a 'mandated reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 Revised July 21, 2017 as a condition of employment.

A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.
