USD School of Law is one of the 84 law schools elected to the Order of the Coif, a national honor society for law school graduates. Detailed Description:
As part of the Law School Student Affairs team, the Assistant Director for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) will serve as the primary advocate, mentor, and resource authority on diversity, cultural awareness, equity, and inclusion for the law school community. This position will lead the development and implementation of proactive DEI initiatives at the School of Law in support of the university's strategic plan to create a learning and working environment where all have an opportunity to succeed. Further, they will champion the importance and value of a diverse and inclusive academic environment and, in collaboration and alignment with the University's DEI office, will develop strategies to actively engage law students, faculty, and staff to further behaviors, attitudes, practices, and policies that support DEI. Finally, the Assistant Director of Diversity Equity and Inclusion will collaborate with key internal and external stakeholders to assess potential barriers and develop strategies to promote a culture of inclusion where individuals from all racial and ethnic identities, ages, nationalities, social and economic status, sexual orientation, gender identity/expression, religious, political, ideological perspectives, and physical and mental abilities are able to thrive and be engaged in advancing DEI as a critical component of social, academic, and intellectual life.

The Assistant Director will work collaboratively with law school students, faculty, the student affairs, admissions, communications and development teams, alumni, and the legal community. This position may require some travel, especially in support of student recruiting, and attendance at on and off campus events during and outside normal business hours.Supervision received: under general guidance of the Assistant Dean for Student Affairs of the Law School.

Duties & Responsibilities:
• Advise and counsel on law student support services, including campus-wide student initiatives to build a diverse and inclusive campus community, particularly for students of color.
• Guide and facilitate difficult discussions, create partnerships across multiple networks, and be a supporter for change
• Advise the Assistant Dean of Student Affairs about matters related to diversity, equity, social justice, and inclusion.
• Collaborate with the Assistant Dean for Admissions on developing strategies to target and recruit students who would contribute to the diversity of the School of Law.
• Collaborate with the School of Law's Development and Alumni Relations team on connecting alumni with diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives at the School of Law.
• Will craft, facilitate, benchmark, and implement an inclusion plan that supports the School of Law and University's mission, core themes and strategic goals as they relate to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
• Collaborate with Law School Assistant Director of Communications to regularly communicate diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives to both internal and external stakeholders and, when necessary, assist with crisis communication related to diversity.
• Build the structures, processes, policies, and evaluation and assessment of efforts necessary to center inclusion within the School of Law and ensure all community members have the needed foundational knowledge and support to create an antiracist, equitable, and inclusive community
• Ensure that diversity and inclusion programs and services comply with relevant state and federal laws, regulations, and University policies.
• Develop, implement, coordinate, and monitor programs designed to build an inclusive and antiracist culture and increase diversity at the School of Law.
• Develop training and coaching programs designed to educate faculty and staff on how to recognize, accommodate and embrace differences among law students and their peers.
• Integrate and expand on the current diversity and inclusion strategy across the university to meet the unique needs of the School of Law and its students, faculty, and staff.
• Assess and support curricular and co-curricular efforts related to diversity, equity, inclusion and identify equity gaps to ensure student success.
• Partner with Mission Integration and other campus stakeholders to support efforts to celebrate religious diversity and promote and advance interfaith efforts at the School of Law.

Job Requirements:
Qualifications:
Assistant Level
• Bachelor's Degree required, graduate degree strongly preferred.
• At least five years of work experience in education administration, student services or a related field required, work experience specifically associated with diversity, equity and inclusion is required.
• At least one year of counseling experience in a student-oriented (customer-service) setting is strongly preferred.
• Demonstrated ability to address issues raised by a large, diverse student body, along with the ability to successfully interact with various populations including students, faculty, administrators, employers and colleagues at other institutions.
Associate Level
• Additional requirements to those listed above: JD required

Performance Expectations - Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
• Strong understanding of diversity, equity and inclusion issues affecting law/graduate students, faculty and/or the legal profession.
• Passion for the development and implementation of proactive and robust inclusion and diversity initiatives in support of the School of Law's academic mission.
• Successful record of influence, community building, networking, and deploying programs for the advancement of diversity, equity, and inclusion practices highly desirable.
• Ability to approach Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion through an intersectional lens, understanding how multiple aspects of identity (e.g., race, gender, class, sexuality, nationality, religion, differences in learning, etc.) intersect to affect the experiences of students, faculty, and staff.
• Ability to develop related programs and materials. Demonstrated experience developing training materials, workshops, and programming strongly preferred.
• Ability to develop marketing strategies to enhance diversity, equity, and inclusion opportunities.
• Proficiency using CRM and other web-based programs for student engagement and services.
• Outstanding written and oral communication skills in engaging with internal and external stakeholders in a manner that fosters respect, builds productive relationships, and creates alignment behind the diversity, equity, and inclusion goals of the School of Law.
• Ability to build trust and credibility with marginalized communities among law school students, faculty, staff, as well as communities throughout and beyond San Diego.
