Job Summary
Columbus State University has an opening for a Development & Stewardship Officer in the University Advancement department. The Development & Stewardship Officer reports to the Vice President for University Advancement and is primarily responsible for identifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding midlevel and principal gifts and donors in support of the university's top priorities. The person in this role is responsible for implementing and executing a strategic plan of action to coordinate and lead the development & stewardship initiatives as assigned.

Responsibilities
Responsibilities for this position include but are not limited to:
  • Develop and implement annual and long-range strategic plans for principal and planned gift activities (Tower Society level gifts of $1,000+).
  • Identify, qualify, cultivate and solicit potential donors to support the University's funding priorities.
  • Document and share all development and stewardship work related identifying, evaluating, cultivating and soliciting Tower Society and above donors.
  • Construct Tower Society and above gift proposals and gift agreements, including tracking and recording in database for individuals, corporations and foundations.
  • Cultivate prospects and present proposals for Tower Society level gifts ($1,000+) and maintain positive relationships with donors and prospects.
  • Maintain knowledge of best practices in development and stewardship, and show evidence of implementation and incorporation of these practices in activities, calls and initiatives.
  • Work with the CSU Foundation volunteer leadership and University Advancement staff to implement best practices for development and stewardship tactics.
  • Collaboratively participate as a member of the University Advancement team on development and stewardship initiatives, and provide all pertinent information, activity and plans to the Vice President for University Advancement on all gift related development and stewardship issues, opportunities and strategic initiatives.
  • Collaborate with the Vice President for University Advancement on strategic projects and other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
Minimum qualifications include a Bachelor's degree; the ability to be conversant with CSU alumni, faculty and staff members with similarly qualified educational backgrounds; the availability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends; and the ability to travel frequently. The successful candidate will be a self-starter, comfortable working independently, but consistently contributes to the team; the ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities and work autonomously outside of the central office; maintain consistent and positive communication with Foundation; facilitate strong communications with alumni, including letters, surveys and telephone solicitation programs; posses excellent communication skills to include effective and persuasive writing, public speaking and interpersonal skills; as well as have a careful attention to detail and a professional demeanor.

Preferred Qualifications
Preferred qualifications include an advanced degree; three to five years of experience in sales or major gift development in a university setting or comparable organization; proven success in the closure of philanthropic gifts at the $25,000 and above level is desirable; working knowledge of all Microsoft Office software; and experience with The Raiser's Edge and NetCommunity software.

Proposed Salary
The salary for this position is $50,000 and includes full benefits.
