General Summary

Administer the Charter Schools Program including identifying applicants, preparing applications, negotiating contracts, meeting with state and federal officials and providing oversight of chartered public school academies.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Direct all activities related to the Charter Schools Program.

Meet with prospective applicants, assist in preparing applications.

Review facilities, curriculum, personnel and financial plans.

Participate as a member of the Charter Schools Review Committee.

Assist in negotiating contracts with public school academies approved by the Eastern Michigan University Board of Regents.

Establish and maintain relationships with local, state and federal officials.

Attend state and national meetings and conferences related to charter schools.

Provide advice and support to public school academies chartered by Eastern Michigan University.

Monitor the curricular, personnel and financial affairs of each public school academy chartered by the University.

Initiate annual or more frequent audits of each public school academy chartered by the University.

Assist University officials with the receipt and disbursement of state aid payments as necessary.

Prepare and recommend University policy regarding charter schools as needed.

Serve as liaison with other state universities that have a charter school program.

Develop and monitor the Charter Schools budget.

Prepare state and federal reports as required.

Prepare an annual evaluation of the program and recommend goals for the upcoming year.

Perform related departmental duties as required.

Qualifications

Knowledge of teaching effectiveness, curriculum development, personnel management and educational facilities typically acquired through the completion of post-master degree level work in education or a related field is necessary.

Five years of experience as a K-12 teacher is desirable.

Four years of experience as a K-12 school administrator is desirable.

Experience working with K-12 finance is desirable.

The report contains information regarding campus safety and security including topics such as: campus law enforcement authority; crime reporting policies; campus alerts (Timely Warnings and Emergency Notifications); fire safety policies and procedures; programs to prevent dating violence, domestic violence, sexual assault and stalking; the procedures the University will follow when one of these crimes is reported; and other matters of importance related to security on campus. The report also contains information about crime statistics for the three most recent calendar years concerning reported crimes that occurred on campus; in On-Campus Student Housing Facilities; in Noncampus buildings or property owned or controlled by the University or a recognized student organization; and on public property within, or immediately adjacent to and accessible from, the campus. The report also contains fire statistics for any fires occurring in an On-Campus Student Housing Facility during the three most recent calendar years.
