A postdoctoral position is currently available for a project investigating neuronal and glial network dynamics after concussive brain injury using 2-photon microscopy and functional ultrasound and fMRI readouts in the Harris In Vivo Imaging Lab within the Brain Injury Research Center, Department of Neurosurgery at UCLA. The work will be conducted on a new 2-photon microscope and functional ultrasound device within the Brain Injury Center and on a 7Tesla MRI spectrometer. The 2-photon work will proceed in collaboration with other existing 2-photon laboratories at UCLA. Dr Harris's lab studies traumatic brain injury with an emphasis on in vivo imaging of neuronal circuits related to injury and to recovery mechanisms, as well as biomarkers that are predictive of outcome.

Duties and Tasks
Lead and perform experiments including cranial window implantation and concussive brain injury.
Acquire in vivo imaging data using 2-photon microscopy and collaborate with team members on other imaging technologies and behavioral assessments.
Analyze data with existing tools and write code for additional analyses.
Prepare manuscripts for submission to scientific journals
Prepare grant applications, including career-development awards
Present at scientific meetings
Skills Knowledge and Abilities
Required Qualifications:
  • PhD and/or MD with a focus on computer science, physics, engineering or neuroscience.
  • Technical knowledge of hardware or signal processing related to image acquisition and analysis.
  • Experience coding in Matlab, Python or R.
  • Strong record of presenting research results through publications and scientific meetings
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and ability to work collaboratively

    Preferred Experience but will be taught if required:
  • Rodent handling experience
  • Experience in mouse behavior and surgical skills.
