Job Summary

Reporting to the Director of CMASS, the Associate Director for Student Support develops, oversees and assesses comprehensive personalized student support services for students from diverse racial and socioeconomic backgrounds and leads with positive, collaborative and inclusive approaches; focuses on achieving the department’s mission, goals, objectives, work standards and assigned priorities, and serves in the capacity of director as needed.

Essential Functions

  • Develop and participate in dynamic team that offers culturally appropriate, strength/asset based coaching services that result in meeting success markers for cognitive growth, retention and graduation of students from diverse ethno-racial, cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds in collaboration with personnel in enrollment management, student success, student affairs and academic affairs. Supervise and develop a team of staff, develop and measure goals and develop complementary programming and events.
  • Develop and maintain strong fiscal, administrative and data driven systems to ensure efficiency and responsible evidence-based decisions including comprehensive assessment of program and learning outcomes and develop reports and budget requests.
  • Maintain contemporary knowledge of current trends, service models delivery, and technology; establish relationships and collaboration grounded on positive dialogue, skillfully work through conflict, seek opportunities to build coalitions to meet goals, and to address barriers to goal attainment.
  • Work some evenings and weekends as needed.

  • Performs related duties as assigned or required to meet Department, Executive Area/Division, and University goals and objectives.

  • Uses access to sensitive and/or not yet public university related information only in the performance of the responsibilities of position and exercises care to prevent unnecessary disclosure to others.
  • Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensure)

  • Master’s degree.
  • Four (4) years of experience supervising professional staff and combined work experience to include providing services to students from historically underserved populations, providing/developing support services grounded in principles of social justice/cultural wealth model/self-empowerment/student development.
  • Strong administrative and technical skills to include assessment, budget management, writing reports, experience with Microsoft Office suite.
  • Preferred Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensure)

  • Field of study is in higher education administration, counseling, student development, sociology, psychology or another related field.
  • Experience working in higher education in multicultural affairs/academic advising/student affairs.
  • Experience working with foster youth, foster alum, youth in out of home care, emancipated youth.
  • Training in coaching, coaching certification, experience advising with coaching perspective.
  • Contemporary knowledge of and experience with social media platforms, varying content delivery systems, use of technology to offer service and support students through transitions/transformational learning.
  • Bilingual candidates.
