Job Summary

Reporting to the Associated Director for Student Development, the Program Coordinator for Cultural Centers will provide direction and leadership for campus-based cultural centers in CMASS (Center for Multicultural Advancement and Student Success) unit. Areas of responsibility include: development of learning-driven programs that educate on cultures, heritages and identities for ethnic based cultural centers; leads with positive, collaborative and inclusive approaches; facilitates and coordinates community-building opportunities for students of all backgrounds; implements and assess projects; ensures student staff are well positioned to succeed in their work; manages allocated financial and physical resources to their best and most effective use; focuses on achieving the Department’s mission, goals, objectives, work standards and assigned priorities. The cultural centers are: Josephine White Eagle Cultural Center (JWECC), Latinx American Cultural Center (LACC), Malcolm X Cultural Center (MXCC), and Yuri Kochiyama Cultural Center (YKCC).

Essential Functions
  • Participates in dynamic team that develops and implements (existing/new) innovative co-curricular programs; trainings and services that result in student learning, development, cross-cultural engagement and community building for students from diverse ethno racial/cultural/multicultural backgrounds and heritages.
  • Establishes relationships and collaborations with student organizations, academic departments, student affairs, and other campus units grounded on positive dialogue to meet/remove barriers to goal attainment and promote positive sense of belonging for students from various cultural backgrounds and cross-cultural engagement.
  • Hires, supervises, schedules and develops a team of student staff through trainings/job aides to advance the mission of cultural centers and accomplishing work expectations.
  • Supports daily operations, implements fiscal and administrative procedures for publicity, purchases, weekly student payroll, monthly budget projections, budget requests, manage multiple calendars/program schedules, space reservations and projects efficiently.
  • Implement data collection systems for assessment/evidenced based decisions, measure learning outcomes, and report on the scope and impact of Cultural Center programs and services.
  • Maintains contemporary knowledge of current trends and technology and participate in related trainings to stay abreast of developments in the field and apply new knowledge as appropriate.
  • Financial and budget responsibilities are for amounts less than $100K in revenue and general operating funds: apply and conform to internal financial policies to ensure transactions are processed properly (e.g. Tax, Human Resources, Legal, and Federal). Utilize financial databases and systems to manipulate and analyze financial data for internal and external reporting and decision making. Work with the supervisor to develop budget to include forecasting; monitor and report variances/problems and recommend solutions. Accept an institutional responsibility for the University funds assigned.
  • Required to work M-TH 1:00-9:00 PM during the academic calendar, Friday flexible schedule, some mornings and some weekends.

  • Performs related duties as assigned or required to meet Department, Executive Area/Division, and University goals and objectives.

  • Uses access to sensitive and/or not yet public university related information only in the performance of the responsibilities of position and exercises care to prevent unnecessary disclosure to others.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensure)
  • Bachelor's degree plus (2) two years of combined work experience to include event management, program/training-development/implementation grounded in dialogue, social justice, cultural enrichment, diversity, equity, inclusion, student success services or Master's degree with (1) one year of combined work experience to include list above.
  • Strong administrative and technical skills to include experience with Microsoft suite.
  • Driver’s license and access to a vehicle.
  • Ability to lift up to 45 lbs.

Preferred Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensure)
  • Experience working in higher education.
  • Field of study in ethnic/cultural studies, education, anthropology, higher education administration, social justice, multicultural education, student development or another related field.
  • Experience supervising students and managing budgets.
  • Experience developing high impact cultural programs for students from ethno racial backgrounds.
  • Contemporary knowledge of and experience with social media platforms, varying content delivery systems, use of technology to offer service and support student learning.
  • Bilingual candidates.

  • Required to drive to multiple worksites on campus.

  • Work Schedule
    • Monday- Thursday 1:00PM-9:00 PM, Friday flexible schedule, some mornings and some weekends. Summer schedule can be flexible according the department needs.
