In the absence of the regular classroom teacher, the Substitute Teacher assists and participates in teaching, protecting and providing care for the children attending the Child Development Lab School (CDLS) at the Community College. The position has relationships with center children, parents, staff and student teachers.

Incumbents must possess proven ability to effectively work with a culturally, linguistically, and ethnically diverse faculty, staff, and student. They are expected to have excellent oral and written communication skills along with strong Information technology literacy skills such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams etc.)

CDA (Child Development Associate Certificate)

The successful candidate must have experience, knowledge, and abilities in the following:

  • Experience working with young children (ages 6 months - 5 years old).
  • Experience in Early childhood education.
  • Experience in Child development and learning principles and applications.
  • Experience in Child protection and care.

  • Associate's degree in Early Childhood Education.
  • Two (2) or more years' experience working with young children (ages 6 months - 5 years old).

Under the direction of the Director of the CDLS, the Child Development Substitute Teacher is accountable for contributing to the development, protection and care of children enrolled in the college’s CDLS, through effective performance in these essential functional areas: Teaching, protecting and caring for children; Parent communication and Center operation. In addition, the incumbent assists with the learning and safety of assigned children in the college’s Child Development Lab School. This includes such essential tasks as:

  • Carrying out planned learning activities and preparing materials and equipment for the children.
  • Conducting learning activities with the children.
  • Supervising children’s activities to assure their safety and to assist them with personal activities such as eating and toileting.
  • Monitoring children’s progress and reporting any pertinent observations to the regular classroom teacher.
  • Accountable for sharing pertinent information with parents about their child’s daily experience at the Lab School.
  • Assisting in maintaining the safe and clean condition of the center facility and its equipment.

The incumbent is expected to maintain currency in the position’s required fields of professional expertise and competencies and to maintain Red Cross first aid and CPR certifications. The incumbent is required to maintain complete confidentiality of student records and other information of a confidential nature.

$27.76 hourly.
