ANTICPATED STARTING DATE: Fall 2021

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Educational Assistant in the NVCC Theater department is responsible for assisting the full-time theater faculty in coordinating and promoting theater department classes, lessons, performances, staged readings, and showcases. The Assistant will also be responsible for tutoring students in audition and performance preparation, as well as assisting theater and musical theater students in the various theatre performance groups. The Assistant will also assist the theater faculty with recruiting, retention, and advising efforts. Incumbents must possess a proven ability to effectively work with a culturally, linguistically, and ethnically diverse faculty, staff, and student. They are expected to have excellent oral and written communication skills along with strong Information technology literacy skills such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, etc.)

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Associate Degree in a related field; or a combination of education, training, and experience which would lead to the competencies required for the successful performance of the position’s essential duties.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    Experience in tutoring and advising Theater students.Experience in Educational Theater.Professional and/or Community Theater experience.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES:

Under the direction of the Theater Faculty, the Educational Assistant in the Theater department t is responsible for the following duties:

  • Assisting in the scheduling and monitoring of theatre practice spaces, some theater equipment and scripts.
  • Coordinate with the Theater faculty to create a schedule of classes for each Semester.
  • Tutoring (assisting Theater students during office hours in audition preparation and practice).
  • Scheduling theater students for retention meetings and advising.
  • Administrative Assistance for Theater faculty in marketing/promotion of theater and musical theater events, communicating with the area high schools; as well answer the department telephone, email, and mail.
  • Assisting with the copying and distribution of scripts and other materials to be used in the theater department activities.

The Educational Assistant in the NVCC Theater department must be flexible and available to work on occasional evenings with adjustments made to their schedule to stay within the maximum of 17 hours/week schedule.

STARTING SALARY:
$27.76 hourly.
