Position Summary:
Under the direction of the Bridge to College Director, The GEAR UP Project Director and GEAR UP Site Coordinator, the GEAR UP Teacher Advisor assists the administrative and instructional staff in implementing and delivering student services virtually and in-person to the cohort of students in the grant program to facilitate academic, cultural, and social enrichment activities. This position is designed to provide mentoring services to the Waterbury Public Schools grant cohort participants during the school day as well as in after-school programs in Math, English, and Science.


Minimum Qualifications:
An Associates’ degree in an appropriately related field, together with one year of experience working with families, community outreach, and with middle/high school students; or a combination of education, training, and experience which would lead to the competencies required for the successful performance of the position’s essential duties.

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience utilizing online platforms for communication, programming, and data collection.


Examples of Job Duties:
The GEAR-UP Teacher Advisor is responsible for collaborating and communicating with the Site Coordinator, Teacher Advisors, school administration, content area teachers, and Guidance Department; small group and individual mentoring sessions throughout the day and developing of mentoring outcomes; data input, review, and analysis of items such as daily and weekly logs of mentoring sessions with student names and objectives; coordination of after-school mentors/tutors; conducting ongoing information sessions, access workshops, and coordinating college access activities for students about college and career options; spearhead and supporting college and career exploration and awareness activities for students and families; content area tutoring in Math, English, and Science.

Starting Wage: $27.76 per hour
