POSITION SUMMARY:

Within the academic area of the college, the adjunct instructor performs the duties of a part-time faculty member Including developing course compendia and reading lists and participating in departmental responsibilities in the selection of textbooks and related teaching resources; maintaining at least one (1) regularly scheduled office hour per week per three (3) contact/credit hours or any part thereof for the purpose of student-faculty contact as it relates to classroom/laboratory instruction; meeting with students for academic advisement, and maintaining accurate student records. Incumbents can teach a total of up to 8 credits per semester within the CC system.

Community College Professionals and Faculty are expected to have excellent oral and written communication skills along with strong Information technology literacy skills such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, etc.)

MINIMUM

QUALIFICATIONS:

Master's degree in Physics or related field.

PREFERRED

QUALIFICATIONS:

    Doctoral degree in Physics or related field.Successful completion of university-level Physics I and II, mechanics, and electricity and magnetism astronomy and/or astrophysics coursework.Experience integrating educational technology into the curriculum.Experience using Learning Management Systems, e.g. Blackboard Learn, Canvas, or an equivalent.

EXAMPLE OF JOB DUTIES:

Under the supervision of the department chair, the adjunct instructor will be responsible for teaching Astronomy courses to diverse and varied student populations whilst remaining current with the latest pedagogies and developing programs based on community needs. The instructor must support the mission of the College, and meet all teaching expectations, as outlined by the department chair.

Part-time Instructors are scheduled to teach at various times, including day and evening, weekdays, Saturday, and Sunday. Please indicate in your hiring documents your general availability.

STARTING SALARY:

$1,721 per contact/credit hour ($5,163 for a 3-credit course).
