Position Summary:

The Men’s Center Coordinator will provide direct coordination and administration centered on the success, persistence, and retention of men of color. The Coordinator will identify objectives and strategies, and work to ensure the success and support the well-being of male students. This position will identify objectives and strategies, and work to ensure the success and support the well-being of Housatonic Community College. Design, plan, and facilitate sessions/workshops/presentations. The coordinator will conduct workshops and programming to enhance the campus experience for men of color and provide leadership and support to the institution’s Equity Project. The Coordinator will serve as an advisor to the campus CEO on issues germane to men of color.  

Incumbents must possess proven ability to effectively work with a culturally, linguistically, and ethnically diverse faculty, staff, and student. They are expected to have excellent oral and written communication skills along with strong Information technology literacy skills such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams etc.)

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Education, Social Sciences, Organizational and/or Student Development, or closely related fields with one (1) one or more years of related experience; or a combination of education, training and experience which would lead to the competencies required for successful performance of the position’s essential duties

Successful Candidate must have or must possess:

  • Experience with working with and mentoring historically underserved groups. 
  • Experience with student retention.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Four (4) or more years' of related experience. 
  • Master’s degree in education, counseling, student development, higher education. 
  • Experience working in a higher education setting. 
Example of Job Duties:

Under the direction of Dean of Student Services, the Men’s Center Coordinator is accountable for the development, coordination and implementation of operations and programming focused on the critical areas of academic coaching & advising, retention, mentoring, and special programs/events. This position offers support and guidance to ensure academic and social success while promoting cultural pluralism and dialogue on matters related to the development of males of color in postsecondary education.

In addition to the accountabilities listed above, the incumbent is required to carry out the essential duties of: Attendance and participation at convocation and commencement ceremonies; Service on assigned committees and task forces; Attendance and participation at committee, staff, informational and professional meetings.  These may involve attendance at evening or weekend events.

Starting Salary:

$53,043 - $56,602  approximate annual plus excellent State of CT medical insurance, retirement, and related fringe benefits.
