About Us:

The Dalla Lana School of Public Health (DLSPH) at the University of Toronto invites applications for a full-time Limited Term Research Associate position with primary research interests in Indigenous (First Nations, Metis, and/or Inuit) cultural safety, land-based education, and Indigenous social determinants of health. The successful candidate will contribute by way of their research expertise to research studies related to cultural safety, previously incarcerated Indigenous peoples, land-based learning, homelessness, and an archival study being developed on biomedicine and Indigenous peoples in Ontario. Reporting to the Principal Investigator, Assistant Professor Angela Mashford-Pringle, the Research Associate will join an interdisciplinary team of researchers and trainees.

Your Opportunity:

The successful candidate will take a leading role in the Pi’s lab activities including but not limited to: data collection and comprehensive analysis, development and modification of research methods, grant writing, knowledge translation and dissemination, and direction and supervision of other research staff and students. The candidate will liaise and provide advice and support, with national research partners, study team members, and Indigenous Elders, Senators, Knowledge Keepers and community members in a culturally safe way to develop research protocols and partnership agreements, grant submissions, preparation and submission of manuscripts and abstracts for peer-reviewed publication, conducting literature reviews, preparing reports for stakeholders, preparing and delivering presentations to stakeholders and scientific audiences, and developing research ethics protocols based on Indigenous sovereignty. Qualifications:

  • The successful candidate must possess a PhD degree or an acceptable equivalent in a subject related to Indigenous health, Indigenous education, sociology, public health, psychology or another related field.
  • In addition, the candidate must have: demonstrated success in the writing and preparation of manuscripts, presentations, reports, briefs and scientific abstracts for peer-reviewed journals; experience conducting research in a relevant field; display strong written and oral English communication skills; work well in a team environment; and be self-motivated and able to work independently in a fast paced environment with limited supervision. The successful candidate will be assisting in mentoring and training graduate students in the PI’s lab.
  • The successful candidate must have OCAP® certification, TCPS2 Certification, and significant experience of 5 years or more (lived or professional) working with Indigenous peoples (First Nations, Metis and/or Inuit) and organizations. Working knowledge and experience with EndNote, podcasting, Adobe Acrobat Reader, and Adobe Premiere are preferred.
